I was getting eggs from two sources that were keeping happy chickens, but lately I've been getting store bought for the dogs. Makes me feel bad sometimes, but I'll do whatever I have to for my pups. Me, not so much. If I don't buy happy chicken eggs I don't eat them.
Kinda doesn't make sense...

What were you paying for the farm eggs dave? Out here they range from $2-$4 at local stands. At the supermarket they are $3-$8

Be careful with labeling- cage free normally means hens crammed together in a building ... Not roaming grassy hills.. Its better to buy fresh from a farm as the eggs dont sit long like a supermarket.. By the time an egg gets to a store its two weeks... Farm fresh are gathered daily and sold daily. I gather twice a day, so does my neighbor and other people that sell locally .. Mine get table scraps and a local mash made by a farm in branchville, so its better then commercial feed. Once winter is over they get grass, bugs, etc... Thanks Michele I'm glad you liked them!!! True farm fresh eggs look brighter then store bought - yolks are more colorful and the whites usually cook up very white.. Today's catch was 10 Attachments:

I paid anywhere from $4 to $7/doz. They were two small op farms, one was a hobbyist like you, maybe had about thirty hens, the other slightly bigger. Egg availability wasn't that reliable. I stopped buying because of that.
I say happy chickens in that they live happy lives. Like yours. They get exercise, sun, social life.

Ah ok now i understand:) Mary unfertilized eggs means there is no rooster .. My eggs are unfertilized as i have no rooster to make the eggs fertilized to hatch baby chicks. Hens dont need a rooster to produce eggs they just need the rooster to make babies.
Dave that stinks she wasn't reliable for eggs- while winter and molting slows things down after that it should have picked up. My neighbor has 25 chickens, i was getting 10 doz every two weeks from her, winter they slowed down a lot and mine did too, now they are all picking up again as they need at least 15 hours of sun to make an egg..

I guess they just had more customers than they could supply. One was in Clinton, I don't go out there anymore... the other is in North Brunswick, and they just didn't ever seem to have any available. I have to find a new nearby source is all.

My neighbor had my coworkers buying from her and her work, then everyone stopped buying in the winter and she has an over abundance of eggs lol.,, it sucks ur suppliers couldn't keep up.. If you want eggs between me and my neighbor we could have you drowning in them if you want and at only $2 a doz to..let me know if you want any we could always meet up somewhere
