So I'm listening to the latest episode of pit bullletin legal news where they espouse the "what's a breed anyway, no one knows how to identify a breed just by LOOKING" line. Because it's not genetics.. or something.
Made me wonder: have any pit bull rescuers ever actually gone to an AKC/UKC (or even ADBA) show to see what the real thing looks like? I'm betting... not (well except for certain "real pit bull" folks). Because.... breeder cooties! ewww.
We know that the touted "expert" study (that "proved" experts can't identify the breed of dogs) didn't make a point of including breeders/kennelclub members/judges as their breed ID "experts" but was "self identified" experts like people who work at Petsmart.
So, what the actual f...
Curious what experience the folks here have ...
(or for that matter: have they ever studied dog history? looked at illustrations, in some cases thousands of years old, that depict dogs that look very much like some of our modern "breeds"?) "Breed" is an amorphous, not very scientific concept ... that doesn't mean that "breed" isn't an actual thing

I think one of the biggest reasons this "no such breed/can't identify one" thing has taken such a foothold is because the audience these ideas were presented to are not familiar with registered, purebred dogs, history, dog shows, or the concept of breed in general. These are the type of people who don't CARE about breed and just like "dogs that look a certain way, kinda".
