I've had people say they wanted to 'donate' their dog, which is.....confusing? I just recently got an email from some with a "perfect" Pit Bull, literally she sounds like a dream, but they couldn't keep her because she chews pillows. I did reach out to see if I could help, but with a dog that is so perfect, and her only flaw is being a dog, essentially, I think there would be no hope of keeping this dog in her home.
Sigh. Happy freakin' Monday!

I need to get rid of Rocky. He is unstuffing pillows, too. And, on top of that he barks. Need him out by tomorrow.
Other than that, he's great.

C'mon, it was just a bad joke. ^ I would never.
But seriously, when I volunteered at the shelter, I heard hundreds of stupid reasons, from "I can't afford it" to "we don't want it anymore". But the best one I ever heard, a woman of sufficient means to keep her cat turned it in because she had just redecorated the house and it didn't go with the decor.
Truth.

OH yeah, I totally remember you said that about the cat not matching the house and I still cannot believe someone actually said that!!
No reply to my offer for help yet with the above, still not sure if this was a serious email or not because it was so unreal that this person went on and on about how great the dog is, but they can't keep her because of her chewing up pillows. Well, just say you don't want her anymore? Sounds more believable.

I pretty much hate ppl. Thanks to working in the shelter.
I have bitched and moaned about River but I still have her. I worry about her ending up in a home that wont tolerate her and dump her off. She can't handle that and I cant do that to her. I already feel so guilty for being away from her.

The sacrifices that myself and so many of us on here have gone thru for our dogs is insane!
Yet these people need to get rid of their "beloved" 12 year old pet cause they don't have time for it any more and its not fair to the dog!

Yep--- Had someone want to give me a dog because it had severe animal aggression and "Would be a great training experience for myself and the dog" They also stated the dog would be euthanized without me accepting. ....Puke...

This is the saga of the redheaded family. We were at an adoption event with a Bluetick Coonhound named Cooper. Towards the end of the day we were approached by Mom, Dad, a son, and a daughter all with the reddest hair you will ever see. They filled out an application and were told we would get back to them as soon as the adoption was approved. The day they got approval they couldn't wait to come to the shelter to pick him up.
The next day Cooper was back at the shelter. Why you might ask. It seems that Cooper reminded Mom so much of their previous dog that Mom was crying so hard all night that she couldn't sleep.
Two days later the redheaded family was back at the shelter and convinced the person in charge that Mom had gotten over her problem and took him home again.
Two days later Cooper was back at the shelter again. This time the reason was that Dad had developed an allergy to him. While Mom took care of the paperwork inside I stepped outside to tell Dad how sorry we were that things didn't work out. I did this while observing that Dad wasn't sneezing or coughing and didn't have red eyes, nor tears, nor a rash, blotches, or spots on any of his exposed skin.
