So, this weekend, hopefully, Lucy is finally going to be properly introduced to my friend's pit bull Sage. Sage lives with 2 other dogs, which Lucy spends a lot of time with hiking and sometimes at work with me. So, me and Sage's owner have decided it is finally a good time to introduce them so they can get used to each other and Sage doesn't have to hide in the bedroom whenever Lucy comes over.
The reason we separate Sage is mostly because her brother Cosmo, a german shepard mix is a very dominant dog, and is very persuasive over this sisters. When other dogs are around he sorta brings some not so nice, but never violent behaviors out in them. When him and the other german shepard mix are with Lucy they do wonderfully and no one ever has problems.
But anyway, back to Sage. Sage loves other dogs, but gets really excited when they are around because she doesn't get to see other dogs much except for her siblings. She plays pretty hard and she is a very big pit. She also doesn't back down to a challenge for dominance. Lucy is pretty submissive with dominant dogs, but is normally dominant in general. I think she is still confused.
So, we were thinking that we could do it the "it's me or the dog" way and walk them on neutral territory together near each other, and finally walk them next to each other, when they calm down. I am going to get Lucy tired out as much as I can first, because she is a puppy still and has a lot of energy.
What do you guys think of this? Good idea, horrible idea, any other suggestions or constructive criticism? I know that Sage will never get to go on our off leash hikes with the rest of the gang, but we'd at least like for Lucy to be able to come over their house without having to lock Sage up.
