We have a bush in our backyard that has thorns on it. Maxine has never had a problem with it until today when she apparently ran headfirst into it trying to chase down her ball.
When I got home from work I noticed that she was limping on her right hind leg and was also nursing a cut under her left eye. Poor dog got hit in the face with the bush and got a couple of the thorns punctured in her leg.
Other then a slight limp and a superficial battle scar though she seems to be alright. Already starting to bare weight on the leg so it does not look like she broke or twisted anything down here.
Danm dog.

Rethinking my earlier post of Maxine not doing any damage to her leg.
Ever since she had the run with the bush she's had a slight limp to her hind leg.
She'd jump off the couch, limp a couple of steps and then start to walk normally. We put it down to getting older, maybe a little arthritis.
Today she can't bare any weight on that same leg, and around the knee it looks a little swollen. I'm hoping she didn't tear anything. She heads to the vet at 9:00 in the morning.
Dam dog I can't take anything more right now!

After a quick reschedule with the vet we have an answer.
Maxine went and tore part of her ACL in her hind leg. No surgery required though she is on bed rest for the next month. Also has a anti-inflammatory and pain killer med for the next two weeks and she's to be on a joint med for the rest of her life to deal with the resulting arthritis.
Dam little dog.

Ugh, good news she doesn't need surgery but good luck getting Maxine to agree to bed rest. Hope she's able to heal up quickly.

Has anyone ever had a dog with a ACL tear before? Its been three days since we took Maxine to the vet and her limping has gotten a little worse. I'm worried that she might have completely torn it. Course she has done her best to stay active on it despite keeping her limited. We are going to completely limit her to the living room from now on, got an old mattress we are going to toss on the floor with some blankets instead of her having to get on the couch or a bed. I've looked at the cost of surgery alone and price wise it looks like 3,500-4,000. I just don't have that. Read a little though that even if it is a complete tear she can still heal without surgery. Just worried about her now. Anyone ever gone through this?
