Hello, all.
My fiance and I adopted a 1.5 year old female pit bull about 2 months ago. She was in a foster house with several other dogs and not a physical shelter.
We went to the foster's house twice to meet her before we took her home, and she was sweet as can be. She immediately began licking us and trying to play. We had no problems with her growling or barking at us.
Since we've had her, we've had only a handful of people over to our home. She barks and growls aggressively at these visitors and she even lunged at our friend last night. These were welcomed visitors and neither of us were uncomfortable. Over the 4th of July weekend, my 4 year old step daughter stayed the weekend with us. Our dog was upset for about an hour or so, and during this time she was in her kennel because we did not want the little girl to get hurt. However after some time we let her out of the kennel and she was fine for the rest of the weekend.
I don't understand why she seemed to have no problem with visitors while at the foster's house, but is very aggressive with visitors with us. There are no trainers in our area and I am desperate. I know she is not a mean dog, and I don't know how to correct the problem.

Return her. She is not acting the way they should be.
