Hi All~
I'm a new member and wanted to introduce myself. I have been involved in APBT rescue for over 10 years and currently serve as Co-Director and Training and Behavioral Consultant for Bama Bully Rescue which I also am a founding member. We are a foster based group with volunteers throughout the state. We successfully adopt dogs outside of our area, as well as locally.
In the past I have shown Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, German Shepherd Dogs and my heart dog Brittany in sanctioned conformation events as well as trained them on my own to advanced levels. Unfortunately, I also employed traditional and forceful (dominance based) methods & tools back then.
My time is filled today with my various rescue group duties (screening apps, evalutating dogs, fielding pleas for help, working on educational materials, etc) with an emphasis on behavior and training support. My group offers lifetime support to adopters but I also offer advice and referrals for private owners who simply need some help to make life easier with their pit bull.
I am a huge advocate of dog-friendly training, I have spent countless hours reading, attending seminars and workshops, assisting classes, doing private consults and surrounding myself with training and behavioral experts in various forums.
Just after hurricane Katrina, we lost our 14 year old pitty to age and cancer. We couldn't stand being without a pit bull and the rescues were saturated since the storm. In December of 05 we brought home an 8 week old male pitty we named Cajun. In March of 06, we offered to foster his sister, Jasmine and because of her fearfulness, we felt she should stay with us forever. They are now 3 years old and happy, healthy and productive pitties!
I'm glad to be here and look forward to meeting everyone!
