From an article written by James O'Heare in 2003, "The Effects of Spaying and Neutering on Canine Behavior". In it he says: "Ben and Hart at the University of California carried out the most extensive surveys on the effects of castration on dogs and came up with these statistics: Roaming Reduced in 90% of cases Rapid reduction in 45% Gradual reduction in 45% No effect in 10% Intermale Aggression Reduced in 60% of cases Rapid reduction in 25% Gradual reduction in 35% No effect in 40% Mounting People Reduced in 60% of cases Rapid reduction in 30% Gradual reduction in 30% Urine Marking in the House Reduced in 50% of cases Rapid reduction in 20% Gradual reduction in 30%

My boy's behavior is so close to perfect that I really fear a personality change when I neuter him. He's a little pushy with other males (but then I've never let him get near another unneutered boy except in the show ring) and wayyyyy pushy with the girlies. I don't mind if eliminating the testosterone calms those behaviors.
But he's not particiularly driven.. what if he loses the spark he has? What if he loses his cuddliness?
THATS what I'm afraid of.

I found that altering Chance at 6 mos. slowed him down a tad, i.e. is calmer around dogs, people and generally behaved better for a period of time. Now he's goin through that adolecent BRAT stage..lol

I honestly wouldn't worry about neutering Mr Peabody, Emily. Neutering isn't going to significanlty alter his personality. I've never had a problem with neutering or had it change a dog's temperament in any significant way. I think the overall effects of neutering are positive.
