I have a newly rescued pit. She's a little over a year old and knows basic commands. I live in a fairly rural area (junea,ak) and we only have 2 training options. 1. Capital Kennel Club- from what i can tell this is where all the local AKC stuff goes on. Trials, practice, etc. The only problem here is their next obedience class doesn't start till march 2. Canine Unlimited- This is one of those healthy, green places. I like the idea this place has a 12 week program for $200.
I don't really know much about either one but have sent an email to each for more info.
Does anybody with a little more experience have a preference? any experience in either of these?

i would try to sit in on their classes before you sign up, this way you can see exactly how the trainer works.. you dont want to sign up and find out the trainer is rough...

Yup, if they won't let you sit in on a class, try to find someplace else. Make sure they are teaching techniques you'd be comfortable using on your own dog. I suggest avoiding any trainer or classes that advocate choke collars, ever, and preferably avoid prong collars. The trainer/class should mainly use food/positive reinforcement as the means to train. Here is a short article I wrote on choosing a trainer: www.realpitbull.com/warning.htmlYou also may want to visit the following sites to see if they have any listed trainers in your general area. (Your odds of finding a decent trainer are MUCH better on these sites than random newspaper ads or local advertising.) www.trulydogfriendly.comwww.clickerteachers.netwww.clickertraining.comwww.iaabc.orgwww.apdt.com

thanks for the tips, and resources mary.
i talked to the trainer at canine unlimited yesterday and she said i'm more than welcome to sit in on as many classes as i'd like. You also get a free Ttouch session when you register and i'm excited to see what that is all about.
