Here's Tucker, a blue brindle pit bull we pulled him from Baldwin County Animal Control's shelter today. He was picked up as a stray on the 4th. One of our vols is fostering him to get him healthy and determine adoptability. This shelter does not adopt pit bulls to the public.
When I met him I went ahead and did an evaluation (which won't be considered conclusive) just to get an idea of what we had, specifically to see if would give us any red flags, even while stressed and scared. We'll be really getting to know him as he's fostered. Hopefully, he will be adoptable, but we can't be sure now.
Initially, we thought he was a puppy, around 6 months based on his small (er...teeny) size (26 lbs emaciated) but when I looked at his teeth, there was a significant amount of tarter build up on adult teeth. No way newly emerged adult teeth would look like this.
Our vol took him to the vet today who estimated him to be around 2 years! He also has horrible skin and coat, an open sore near the tip of the tail, a few on his feet and a large, hard lump on his bottom jaw which the vet says is the result of the jaw being broken and healing on it's own.
Amazingly, he is HW neg, no internal parasites and no sarcoptic or demo. He is simply in this condition b/c of lack of care and nutrition. We got that darn huge choke chain the shelter used off of him, too by the way!
He also appears to have worn a collar at some time as there's a discolored ring around his neck.
We've created a fundable page for him to hopefully get some donations to help with his vetting. We had him vaxed and chipped and once we get some weight on him, we'll have him neutered. If anyone would like to donate, I'll provide the link.
