The bill at this point is just notice that the Senate intends to
change Chapter 767 of the Florida statutes on "damage by dogs" - This
bill was sponsored by Senator Mike Bennett (Rep) from District 21. It
should also be noted that Senator Bennett is the Chair of the Senate
Community Affairs Committee. This is the Committee that came out with
the Senate Interim Report #2009-102 which recommends that local
governments be given the right under their home rule authority to
enact breed specific regulations such as registering, muzzling,
neutering or destroying the dog.

PLEASE, go to the NAIA Trust CapWiz tool and send an email to your
Senators expressing opposition to removing the restrictions provided
in F.S. 767.14. Tell them the only changes that need to be made in
Chapter 767 Damage by Dogs is the menacing language by which many
innocent dogs are being destroyed. Here is the link for the CapWiz

For those of you that think this bill will not affect YOUR dog because
you own a dog that isn't considered "aggressive" or "dangerous" (i.e.
such as a Golden Retriever or a toy breed) - THINK AGAIN! Some
communities have enacted regulations against dogs based on their
weight (i.e. large dogs or dogs over 30 lbs), or any breed involved in
a recent dog bite incident (i.e. Pomeranian mauled infant to death).
How would you feel if your Champion (fill in the blank) just because a
dog of the same breed or one that resembled a breed was regulated by a
local government and they mandated that the dog MUST be NEUTERED or
destroyed.

It is imperative at this time THAT WE ALL BAN TOGETHER. It matters not
whether a particular law will affect you specifically. ANY attack
legislatively that will negatively impact our sport or discourage
ownership of dogs in general is a THREAT. PLEASE, regardless of your
breed make your voices heard!

Please contact all of the Community Affairs Committee members and tell
them that you OPPOSE any change to Chapter 767 which will allow local
governments to enact regulations based solely on a dogs' breed,
regardless of whether or not the dog has ever bitten or threatened
anyone! Please also contact Senate President Jeff Atwater.
