This forum is dedicated to the APBT - American Pit Bull Terrier (nick name PIT BULL). The breed is referred to as APBT, American Pit Bull Terrier (official name), Pit Bull, Pit Bulldog, or bulldog (nicknames) by its fanciers.
The APBT is a RECOGNIZED, registered breed of dog. Recognized registries include the UKC, ADBA, and AADR.
Realpitbull.com promotes the correct use of the breed name, APBT - American Pit Bull Terrier. Or "Pit Bull" for short. Among fanciers, it is also very common to lovingly refer to the breed as Pit Bulldog or bulldog, hearkening back to its ancestral bulldog roots.
Please note: "bull breeds" is a collective term used for dogs of bulldog ancestry.
This post is to help end confusion about breed name(s) and what exactly the focus of this forum is. There are so many terms/definitions used when referring to APBTs and similar dogs and RPB aims to help end confusion and promote specific terminology so we all are on the same page when it comes to discussing these dogs.
Please note: we consider American Bullies to be seperate from the Pit Bull/APBT. But we welcome all bullbreed enthusiasts here and anyone who is interested in learning more about the American Pit Bull Terrier!
