Simba lived 2 doors down last summer and the neighbors chained him to a tree because he ran the neighborhood all the time. My husband and I freaked because we have a pit and were afraid of a news story in our neighborhood and the possiblity of BSL. So we kind of babysat him from a distance trying not to ruffle any feathers. Then, one day, he came over I opened the gate he came in and made friends with Onyx, and it was on! I told my husband we need to find out if they want that dog. His neck did not have hair on it because of chain or whatever they put around his neck. So, we approached them and said we see that your dog is constantly on chain with no one around him, do you want him? They said no that they had been calling no kill shelters. There here have the dog, shut the door and we went home with him and that day and that was 2 1/2 weeks ago. No problems other than with Lily. So we are proceeding with caution no free lead time. And I will not chain him, so we will be toghether connected by our leash! I am still waiting for the trainer to call me back. He is 1 year old, he will be neutered on March 10, 2009. He is on his 3rd home in a year. So he is unsettled, trying to find his place in our pack. But than the one incident, that is all we are baseing our opinion on. More unsettledness (is that a word)? from him than anything, not secure when we leave the house, he is getting better. Good behavior at the vet, my vet loves him, she did not say anything when I was considering putting him down, but if looks could have killed, she would have shot me down, quick. Other than him being born at a crack house for fighting and then dropped of at my neighbors, nothing really. He seems to be adjusting well to me paul & onyx and our friends too. We are taking it slow after he roughed up Lilly a little bit, my neighbors dogs. He likes to sit on our lap, sleeps with us a night, loves to play with all of us, have not seen any territorial issues in the house or outside the house for that matter, he just doesn't like that gsd next door. Neither does Onyx but she doesn't act on it. So we are tetering in the middle until we can get set up with the trainer and trying to learn as much as we can to help him and us.
