To Whom It May Concern:
I recently watched a story on ESPN about the troubles Atlanta Falcon’s QB Michael Vick is enduring after being accused of illegal dog fighting activities and involvement. When I heard about this kind of thing going on I hoped that the community and authorities would take it very serious for several reasons.
These types of activities have lead to very negative circumstances for both society and the dogs involved. From this ugly and very gruesome activity these dogs have evolved into one of the most hated and feared pet type animals on the planet. They have been implicated and blamed for several mutilations and even fatalities related to the ferocious attacks suffered and endured by thousands of innocents. They are, in many areas, destroyed after being impounded due to these facts and yet people like Michael Vick contribute to the danger that could be equated to the same atrocities related to illegal hand-gun possession and use. The dogs have even endured a less than respectful reputation and are feared simply by association. This type of association and practice is a societal atrocity and is something that should be not taken lightly by anyone that has any association or opinion about these types of activities!! That is why I believe someone needs to step in and NOW!!
These players in the NFL and other associated high profile positions and the media representatives that relay their information to the public venue need to be accountable for their portrayals and communications of things (no matter how trivial they may think they are) that directly assault and damage the well-being of the community that they represent and infect. The atrocity (though it is a horrible action) is not Mr. Vick’s involvement in this ugliness, as he is being investigated to the fullest extent of the law, but the way Washington Redskin’s RB Clinton Portis and the related news station ESPN relayed there personal views about the situation!!
Mr. Portis said he knew of places where he could take someone to see this activity in person!!! What the heck does that mean? And then the Redskins organization simply apologizes for him and his comment! He even commits himself to a snicker standing by his teammate in an interview with regards to the commitment of the authorities in the investigation and persecution of Mr. Vick. He makes light of the situation and even sarcastically comments on the non-severity of this issue. I was watching the evening news this evening and 3 OF THESE ANIMALS ATTACKED A FATHER AND HIS YOUNG SON HERE IN THE CITY!!!! Who the hell does he think he is?? Just a short time ago there was another person in the media that said the wrong things and he was persecuted and damned for opening his mouth and saying the wrong things!! Why can this guy actually condone YES CONDONE and even tell the nation that he can take anyone (even the children that look up to him to one of these activities I am sure) and just apologize for these comments and it is all good!!!!! This is horrible and needs to stop! The Commissioner needs to step in right now and set an example! Players are getting away with anything and there seems to be no regard for the community they represent at all!! And to think this player plays for a team that represents our Nation’s Capitol!!
Now, ESPN! What the hell was all that bull about “if this offends you, we apologize, blah blah blah. Ha Ha Ha !” I thought (as an avid watcher of the show) this was one of the most nonchalant, cold, insensitive and self righteous displays of piss poor sports story reporting I have ever seen!! Are you going to report the next dog attack on a child that kills that child and just happens to be Mr. Portis’s animal?? Do you realize it is National Dog Bite Week???? YOU INSENSITIVE JERKS. Do you want to see what really happens when one of these Ha Ha animals lets loose on an innocent go to any one of your stupid video.com websites!! You will see some of the most gruesome and horrific things you have ever seen!! Do you condone Mr. Portis’s almost comical take on the situation with Mr. Vick? Why shouldn’t Vick and Portis be banned from playing in the league for the next year? How is what they are obviously guilty of not just as horrific and damaging to society as gun running, murder, societal deviance, and contributing to the decline of our Nation on a whole?
You say it is not the same as these things well just think about this: these animals are traded and bred (made) with one purpose in mind FEAR! How is that any different than the manufacturing and distribution of weapons?? These animals are confirmed to kill several people in the US every year, many times at the orders and direction of their owner! How is this any different from Manslaughter or Murder?? These two iconic sports idiots are both condoning and participating in gambling and using these animals in illegal activities! Does this not deviate from the norm?? And you all light-heartedly laugh at the charge and investigation of this type! What does that do to our Nation and its ability to define what is right and wrong? What is deviant and despicable!?
I really hope that someone that reads this takes it more seriously than the NFL, the Washington Redskins, the Atlanta Falcons, Mr. Clinton Portis, Mr. Michael Vick, and ESPN!! I hope somebody steps up and says this has to stop! If not for our society sake and the animal’s sake but maybe the children’s sake!! The NFL needs to step in and bring down the hammer!! ESPN needs to publicly apologize for their light-heartedness in the manner! And they all need to do something to recognize the seriousness of this type of activity and do something to fix what they have broken. ESPN, you hurt more people than you think and I REALLY HOPE THAT THERE ARE MORE THAT HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT IT! I am not so sure I really want to watch your programming anymore!
WHAT A BUNCH OF INSENSITIVE JERKS, YOU REALLY HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY PEOPLE (ESPECIALLY CHILDREN) HAVE BEEN HURT! And Mr. Portis, I have always felt you were worthless and now you have put an exclamation point on it!!
