Has anyone heard of this yet? It is a new program that AKC has out for puppies - kinda like the CGC - just for pups instead of adults. We have a STAR tester in Shreveport now and I was just wondering if it would be worth it to enroll the pup in the class and do the test. Ideas, opinions, thoughts??

Yup, I've heard of it. Looking to implement the program for Pit Bull puppies, actually, come spring.
If the trainer in Shreveport is good (positive based, knowledgeable), I'd say GO for it!

It encourages participation above and beyond the typical puppy class because it gives owners the chance to achieve something together with their pup at the end of a series of classes. It's always good to have something motivating you - not that a well trained, socialized, balanced puppy isn't motivation enough Andrea, I'm so excited for you to get your pup - I just know you are going to be a great Pit Bull mom, and I am looking forward to seeing how your little one grows up.

It is absolutely killing me waiting for her!!
The puppy classes here (I sat in on a graduation last week) are really great, they give you a "certificate of graduation" when you have finished the class - and you can retake the same class at 1/2 price if you feel you need to work more on any or all areas covered.
I have her enrolled in the STAR program here (yes, already) they will be starting new classes in March - so she will get an early start. I figured - maybe do the class 2 times before we do the testing.
After that - the CGC and some obedience - maybe rally as well are on my list of things to do.
Don't laugh - my Mom is knitting Lily a sweater to wear - she found a pattern somewhere and is doing one in pink and white. Mom says short haired babies get cold fast and the classes are usually outdoors - so she does not want Lily to get cold.

Adorable!!! Pit Bulls do tend to get chilly, I think most of us here have sweaters and coats, even those of us who live in warm states (which isn't me - it was 13 degrees when I walked Luca this morning...absolutely horrendous; the snow and ice and salt were killers; ordering him dog booties today).

LOL - I just think it is funny. My Mom was not really into the idea of me getting Lily - then I drug her along to meet some pibbles. She expected a vicous dog - and she got covered in kisses - kind of changed her mind and blew away the "stigma". Now she is just as excited as me and has bought me 5 books on the breed and specific books on training the pibble. LOL - she even got me a discount for my puppy classes!! I can't wait to have more people here really understand these dogs and how great they are - I want to help get rid of the "bad dog" stigma that surrounds the breed here locally. Ah - crap - I am running on and on - to excited for my own good !!!!

Now she's the proud gramma awaiting the arrival of the new grandpup ;D

Yay Andrea! Already changing minds and you don't even have your puppy yet! Your mom will be a doting g'ma, I'm sure! Here in the deep south (far as you can go without a boat) it's 24 degrees right now. ! Mine all go out with coats b/c they're cold weather pansies.
