www.scnow.com/scp/news/local/article/scranton_resident_asks_council_for_pit_bull_ban/31149/Scranton resident asks council for pit bull ban By Charles Tomlinson Lake City News & Post Editor Published: February 2, 2009 SCRANTON — Scranton town officials said they plan to hold discussions with Florence County leaders after a resident asked for the town to ban pit bulls. “Your concerns are our concerns,” councilwoman Marie L. Eaddy said during Monday’s town council meeting. “We will do our best.” Ernestine Haselden, who lives on Railroad Avenue, said the person who lives behind her has four or five “pit bull-type dogs” who charge at her fence “just as hard as they can to get to me.” She asked council members to consider an ordinance that would ban pit bull-type dogs as well as any other breeds they see fit. She said that if any pets are grandfathered in, the owners should have to hold a $100,000 liability insurance policy on the animals. Most people living around her are elderly, she said. “We should be able to live our last years in some sort of peace and tranquility in our own yards, not bothering anybody else,” she said. Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Knotts, who presided over the meeting, said the county handles planning and zoning for the town. He told citizens that he planned to call county council Chairman K.G. “Rusty” Smith on Wednesday morning to discuss the issue.

This is dangerously close to me. Scranton is all of 50 miles from where I live and if this passes we'll be next...

And I can certainly understand this resident's complaint but I think it's a little ridiculous to assume every other pit bull type dog behaves as these do. I just don't get that mentality.
Complain to the neighbors, share concerns, erect a modified barrier, etc COMPROMISE!
I think it's unrealistic to even consider a breed ban in this case, especially considering the dogs haven't done anything. But she has a valid complaint, her rights are being affected b/c she feels threatened on her own property. But she can't say she feels threatened by someone else's pit bull type who lives 15 miles away, what do they have to do with anything??
