AOL is giving me some conflicting indications of who all this finally all went out to, but in either case it seems to be a proper subset of all those I intended to receive it. So here it is, either again or for the first time, for hopefully everyone this time. And one thing that NO ONE received other than a few who wrote back to ask is my official permission to crosspost, which is of course heartily granted. Please send at least the link to the widgets with some explanation to everyone in the dog, shelter and rescue worlds, and anyone else you know who might be a current or possible future donor to HSUS, to explain to them why this group deserves no one's support right now when there are other groups who do vastly more good than HSUS really ever has, and don't have at least this particular grave demerit. (No groups are perfect in anyone's, let alone everyone's, eyes. But the sins of HSUS at this point are all but unforgivable.) Meanwhile, you MAY include both my original and, if you wish, this bit of supporting prose as you crosspost. I leave it entirely up to all of you.
Thank you.

MANY, MANY years ago, I posted extensively against HSUS and their habit of "saving" dogs by killing them and their hardline push for "dangerous dog laws" that singled out "dogs used for fighting" as inherently dangerous despite overwhelming evidence that they are anything but (recently, if VERY belatedly, demonstrated by the successful rescue and placement of almost all of the Vick dogs), laws that many other groups shamefully hailed as "model laws" simply because they contained only this somewhat limited bit of murderous BS, targeting merely hundreds to thousands of innocent dogs rather than, as in laws advocated by even worse groups like PeTA, targeting tens of thousands to millions of members of an entire breed (plus mixes, similar breeds and all the usual monstrous malarkey). Well, it was one of these "model laws" that was invoked to kill 127 innocent dogs (including about 60 puppies, according to reports) in North Carolina this past week. Similar laws are on the books all over the US. It is time to repeal and radically revise all of them.
To tell you the truth, back in the 90s, I wasn't at all sure that I would live to see the day when not just Pit Bulls, but actual fighting dogs were almost universally deemed worthy of genuine compassion in the dog and rescue communities. And it wasn't because I particularly expected to die young. But such was the state of consensus opinion amongst even those most dedicated to valuing and saving canine lives that I felt we'd be lucky if we could hold back just the worst of breed specific laws and I would never, ever see the day that dogs who had been used for fighting would20ever be seen as anything but needle fodder at best. And yes, that included puppies.
Well, no one saw the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact coming, but all it took was Hungary opening up its borders to east bloc people coming in AND going out in whatever direction they chose and the whole dictatorial edifice, one of the most enormous and powerful in history, rapidly came crumbling down. Similarly, no one could have predicted that the arrest and indictment of a criminal and creepy NFL quarterback would set off a chain of events that would lead public opinion to finally recognize HSUS as the criminal creeps that THEY are w/r/t these innocent dogs. But here we are. Let us seize the moment. And while I may still never see the day when the officials at HSUS really PAY for all the fraud and deception they have committed, aggressively panhandling on behalf of dogs on the one hand while sticking the needle in with the other, I just may see the day that HSUS goes bankrupt because their lies fool no one anymore.
One place to start in the long overdue demolition of HSUS and its eternal campaign of lies and deceptions is by simply posting "widgets" on dog and rescue related websites of the sort that are available via the link below. I hope I will SOON see the day when these widgets are WIDELY visible on dog and rescue websites!
