Oh shut up!!
“DogsBite.org is a national dog bite victims group dedicated to reducing serious dog attacks by creating common sense laws."
...Common sense laws? But only to those who agree with their vigilante, insane, inflammatory, inaccurate, yadda yadda ideals...
IF this group of people and their supporters wanted to *really* reduce the number of dog bits, wouldn't it make more sense to collaborate with responsible owners, regardless of breed to come up with solutions? Which, of course, the solutions are continuously shared by responsible owners all the time.

I'd say it came from a reliable source. I can't remember her full name or if she's with an org, but her name is Dawn. And if I remember correctly, she actually wrote one the APBT books that is a favorite for many.

Yup, that's Dawn Capp. VERY reputable, and I'd believe what she has to say. This is pretty disconcerting, but I can't even imagine Dogsbite getting organized enough to file! Since they are primarily about influencing legislation, I don't believe they would be able to get exempt status, anyway. P.s. I'm moving this to the Issues board

The IRS has strict guidelines about granting tax-exempt status and about what amount of "lobbying" a non-profit is allowed to do. I think it's great that Dawn is raising the alert. But I am skeptical that the IRS cares much about letters objecting to granting status. They will act according to their guidelines.

We had to be very careful in regards to the language used in our mission statements and other paperwork when filing for NFP status. Mentioning any lobbying or effort to influence legislation is a big red flag.

their is a group on facebook linked with dawn capps new documentary where dogbite.org has put out a posting for people to write letters on their behalf to the IRS to help grant them this status DO these people honestly think that the IRS will grant them status if the public petitions them? From what I've read, it is more difficult than ever before to gain 501c3 status. Since all dogsbite does is promote laws that would ban breeds, they don't even have any other work to hide behind. In the same vein, on the other side of the fence, as Emily posted above, I think it's a waste of time to send letters of petition to the IRS asking them NOT to grant status to dogsbite. The org either will meet requirements or it won't. The IRS isn't going to be swayed one way or another by letters from the public.
