Hi my name is Pat. I went from zero dogs (for the past 7 years) to living with 4 pitties in 4 months. I could not have picked a pit bull out of a line up to save my life. Then I met my grandogger Tawney the first part of December 2008.[
Next my daughter made me watch things like "It's me or the Dog", "Animal Cops" & "DogTown". I saw the episode about the "Vicktory Dogs". I was appauled and inspired...I bought anti-Vick tee shirts. I wanted his teeth pulled out strapped to a rape rack for castration without anesthesia. But most of all, I wanted to be a part of the solution, and do something good for an innocent victim. I did a little bit of research. I decided I wanted to adopt, so then I went to petfinder.com and found a female pit mix 6 mo puppy at my local shelter. We named her Lola. While I was looking for Lola, I also noticed Hope, a young damaged (fearful) female at a local 'ALL' breed rescue. After 1 month things were going great with Tawney and Lola, but I couldn't quit thinking about Hope and she was still listed....
Finally, after alot of convincing my husband, I called about Hope. They brought her for a visit, interveiw and home inspection and just left her with me, waiving all fees. Hope is very damaged and probably should not have been put up for adoption, but I think my Higher Power put her with us for a reason. I don't think she'll ever be normal, but slow progress is being made and she loves her other pack members.
Four more weeks pass and I figure I've got room for one more lost soul and so I found Viking @ my local shelter. He's in very bad shape when we see him, but still very sweet inspite of obviously having a very hard first year...Yep, he lives here now too.
I have probably bitten off way more than I can chew, but I've got the resources, the time and the space. I've got alot of experience with other dog breeds. I grew up riding, showing, breaking and training all manner of equines, so I'm no pushover. People are way more scary than animals. I need your help and support and the benefit of all your experience.
