Hey everyone, My name is Frank, I'm 35 happily married with a 6 year old son and one older fat cat . We just picked up our new dog today a 5 month old brown pitbull that we got from the local pound in Rockford IL . I have owned 2 other dogs before 1 was a St Bernard and the other was a medium sized mixed breed. However this is the First Pitbull that I have owned and the first dog for my wife and son. So far everything is going great with our new pup and we have decided to name him Indy. Since my son loves Indiana Jones. I'll post some pics tomorrow so everyone can have a look. I'm mostly here for breed advice and anything else that might come up and looking forward to contributing on the forums. Thanks Frank Here's some pics !

Hi Frank, welcome aboard and CONGRATS on your adorable new baby! Indy's color is technically what's called red/red nose. I can't quite tell from the pix but he appears to have some slight brindling, too. If so, he'd be a red brindle/red nose. Just thought I'd give ya the official color name We are here to help, so any questions, etc, please feel free to ask.

Thanks for all the responses.
So far we have gotten very lucky. Just a few accidents in the house otherwise the potty training is going very well. And when we got him he even knew a few commands. Sit and stay, Stay is a work in progress for longer periods ;D
Otherwise he is very well behaved around my 6 year old son and so far he is just curious about my fat 20lbs cat, That has managed to scare indy off.
The vet said he is almost 6 months old and he weighs 27.5lbs is that a good weight for his age ? I'm thinking he will be around 50 to 55lbs as a adult provided I dont overfeed him.

Aww! He's precious! Congrats and kudos for adopting a shelter dog. Generally, you can estimate adult weight by doubling their weight at 5-6 months old. My now 3.5 year old male weighed 30 lbs at 5 months old and 35 lbs at 6 months old and as an adult he weighs 55-60lbs depending on the season/activity levels. I prefer a lean, athletic dog as extra weight can lead to many health issues.
