hey guys i was wondering if anybody knew of a pit/bully rescue/shelter need or around atl, ga (nw)? I know all shelters are always in need of hands and i want to volunteer somewhere but i dont know of one close to me for bully breeds (thats really where i'd love to try and volunteer first- for a bully rescue). I know of 'pit prints rescue' in canton which is right by me but i've tried to contact them before and no success. Their site hasnt been updated in forever either (like a year literally) so i dont even know if it still exists. I tried to bring them supplies one day and couldnt find an address. The only one i found was from some weird site i got trying to google it and it ended up being this house for sale in some neighborhood in canton....blah. I really wanna start doing more for the breed and helping where i can for these dogs. Anyone know of a place? Im sure i can always go to a shelter- i know the fulton county animal shelter has tons of pits b/c i think its the one that services dwntwn atl...so they're always finding pits in the city. But im not sure how to start. i've never done it before and im not sure if i can just call and be like 'what can i do for you'? is that how it works? lol any help will be very appreciated! plus- idk why- but if it was also a shelter just for bully breeds i'd feel more comfortable going into it. Going to the one in atl i feel like its gonna be huge and packed at the same time- maybe more so overwhelming than a shelter for a specific breed. I never go into atl even tho i live right by it- i think it always overwhelms me. ive lived here my whole life and have no idea how to drive around dwntwn- all the streets have the same names here in ga lol!! makes it confusing so i stay on the outskirts (or someone else drives!)

Steer clear of Pit Prints and Amanda Conrad, she's a nut job and lists dogs that she doesn't have and collects sponsorship money for them (I know this for a fact with proof, she had one of our dogs listed without permission). She claims she doesn't update her site but also claims she has no volunteers.
She was recently attacked by a dog (or so she says) and has lied about having cancer in the past to solicit funds. She has also bred dogs for money. Looks can be deceiving, you cannot find anything on her site which seems questionable, but trust me, you don't want to be involved with her reputation.
There is much more, but I'll leave it at that.
You can IM me and I'll give you an email of a contact I have in Atlanta that may be able to point you in the right direction in that area.
Also, when you inquire about volunteering, it helps if you send an email with your capabilities, skills, how much time per week you can dedicate to rescue work (most is done online), if you are able to foster, transport, do home visits, web design, screen applicants, etc.
In our group, some vols have specific areas which they specialize in. Each of us bring something different to the table.

I do remember seeing something in the past about her and cancer- I'm amazed but thank you, really, thank you for letting me know. Ill leave it at that- I'm sure i don't need to know all the details but one thing that caught my attention was how does someone find out you have lied about having cancer? I don't really need to know the answer to that but kinda surprising to think of- lie about having cancer?...really? huh. Anyways, that makes me really sad...I was actually hoping I could help there but i would love the contact- unfortunately I don't know how to "im". :/ The only "iming" i remember to do was aim....now i usually just e-mail. But i would love to learn! =)

Yeah, we have the whack jobs in this breed. LOL I can't steer you to any place specifically in your area, but I can tell you that shelters usually welcome volunteers with open arms. There aren't many breed-specific shelters - I'm not sure what you are looking to do, task-wise, but if you are looking to walk, train or exercise dogs, a shelter would be your best bet as private rescue orgs usually need vols to do things like foster, transport, help out with organizational tasks, etc. I think it's great that you want to help out. The breed needs you!
