I'm looking for some type of crate cover that would cover all four sides of a crate. I guess the material doesn't matter.
Because of Maverick's "explosion" issues, my husband wants me to find something that will "contain" his accidents that he does so well in shooting OUTSIDE of his crate every time. It's ruined our carpet, which will be replaced soon ($500 for one room) and the hubby says it does not need to happen again...lol.
Anybody know of anything that would work for this?
Thanks!

Hmm, I think this is why so many dog people have tile or hardwood! There are covers but most are more decorative and quite expensive with intention to "pretty" up wire crates. Have you considered changing to an airline crate? Issues with that is limited visibilty out (which you'll also get with a cover) and still would be a helluva mess to clean. Does Mav tend to pull things into his crate? www.dogcratedepot.com/Cratewear-homepage.htm?gclid=CNuJquPKz5kCFRxNagodFBUXuQ

No, he's never pulled anything in, it's usually Dixie who has tried that maneuver. That was mostly all I could find, the really fancy covers...not exactly what i'm looking for. I thought about an airline crate, but I just find them like an eyesore sittin in the house (just my opinion - like wire crates better), and I don't want to have to change him into something he's not used to. At least with the cover, he'd still be in "his" crate. We're in the process of changing most of the house over to a hardwood type flooring, but it's going in the large living room/dining room area, where our alarm's motion sensor is, and it would detect them because they're large. If they moved, it would go off. So that leaves them A) staying in the bedroom but only if we find a surefire way to keep the carpet from getting messed or B) moving them into a back bedroom with older carpet and hoping they don't mess it up too. I'd reallllly rather them stay in our bedroom, that's what they're used to and plus, I like them in there.

thanks for the link. That actually looks like it might work, but I can't tell if it covers the back too, or just the sides...?

I'd assume it is three-sided, most have an accordian flap in front, too. I dunno if you'd be interested in doing something like this but Frances' set up in the "dog room" and living room have a plastic type smooth panel attached to the walls behind crates and ex-pens to 1) protect the walls from scarring/scratches and 2) make clean up a cinch in case of an accident. It wipes clean super easily. You could do something like that and also cover the floor somehow, soft/waterproof tarp or dropcloth? May look like caca but at least it will keep the caca off your carpet.

dr foster and smith has crate covers, they are heavy nylon, and come in different colors, they cover all 4 sides and have windows you can roll up and doors with zippers.. i have blue and green ones, they fit wire crates, but you have to know your crates dimensions to get the right one. i think www.petedge.com has them too.. they are NOT cheap

I've used old shower curtains for this purpose, under the crate. If you buy a new heavy duty clear one, it shouldn't look too bad. I would probably use that in addition to a crate cover. You could possibly even make your own cover if you are a bit creative, sewing or pinning one or more shower curtains, blankets, sheets, etc. in place like a slip cover.

Poor Mav! He'd be mortified if he knew we were having this conversation! LOL

Since you're replacing the carpet in your bedroom anyway, why not just get laminate or hardwood? You can get laminate done just as cheaply as carpeting. Seems like the easiest solution to me. Personally I hate wall to wall carpeting, and it's so much harder to keep clean with pets around.

thanks for all the advice/ideas!!
I ended up buying clear shower curtains to go underneath the crates, ran them about 6 inches up the wall also. It actually doesn't look too crummy, and hey, it works!
I also found out that I cleaned the carpet better than I thought, and I don't think we'll have to replace it after all! Just gotta keep it clean from here on out...
I think i'm still gonna get the crate covers. They're really pretty anyway, and I think it'll look better than just the wire crates sitting there.
Thank you all again!
