So we went to one of our local shelters yesterday to give them a copy of our 501c3 letter (it's not required, but always good to have on file right?). While we were there we looked at a couple of dogs. We fell IN LOVE with both of these boys and want so badly to bring them into our program provided they do well in a full evaluation. We spent some time with them yesterday, to get pictures, and so far they're great dogs! First up is "ugly boy". We need to find him a name, and after seeing how adoringly affectionate he is... I'm thinking Romeo. Nobody knows what happened to this poor kid, he came in as a stray. We looked him over tho, and he doesn't appear to have been in multiple scraps. Our best guess is that this face is the result of one nasty scrap or someone out there is extremely cruel. He's smiling in both of these... I promise! And next we have a boy that Alicia and I have dubbed "Boner" He is a VERY intact male (of course) and he gets a "little" excited when he's shown any type of attention and affection. LOL! He's a doll baby. Seriously... look at the grin! Everyone cross fingers that we'll have some good people step up to foster these boys in time.

LMAO! Boner? Eew. Piloerection?? Or "come to mama" type? Eew, again.
We had a dog back with TMR who was found in a trailer, abandonded and seriously injured like MM up there. We got him to Auburn for reconstructive surgery and he was adopted to a great home who later adopted the very first BBR adoptable.
Gabe's muzzle looked alot like this and now he looks fairly normal and much more functional.
I'll see if I can dig up some pictures.

We're wondering what type of reconstructive surgery might be possible for this boy. He is SO sweet, non-reactive to other dogs that are aggressively barking behind kennel gates, over all he's just curious about them and REALLY people friendly and loving. Right now our concern with him is what type of home to place him in for HIS own safety. I'm not comfortable placing him in a home with kids because kids are so "rough and tumble" and that gum is totally exposed. The same goes with other dogs or whatever animal he may come into contact with. Rough "bully style play" really would just cause more damage I'm afraid. I'd love to see pics Jess if you can dig them up. We still need to do complete evals on both boys, but we do have high hopes and a pretty good idea that they're good candidates for our program.

Jess, after your talking about the reconstructive surgery, I googled and found the vet college in Raleigh, NC that does similar things. We'll have to get a referral from our veterinarian once we get him in, but I suppose it's possible.
One of the other "Deans" sent the pics and email on to the surgeons there for their input too. So maybe?
We still have to eval and bring him in though lol!
And I'm pulling hard for both of them. I don't want to leave either of them behind! Mr. Bones Mcghee is a Love bug that I seriously want to cuddle with lol!

Wow! What a difference a little reconstructive surgery makes. He looks great Jess! I sure hope we can get him in and get him help. It breaks my heart to see dogs like these and know that people turn their heads in disgust without giving them a chance to show how gushingly affectionate and wonderful they are.

It would be interesting to see what a vet thinks caused this. It almost looks like a chemical burn of some sort.
Remember Fundable.com guys. People would come out of the woodwork to help this guy get a facelift.

Okay, now all we need to do is get him into a foster home! Just heard back from the veterinary college surgeon and he seems optimistic that they can "fix it" with bilateral advancement flaps. I hope this new information will help us find him a foster home! Now...pray that we can pick up one for Bones too!

Updating Both Bones and Mickey are in foster care. I have NO idea how we got so lucky! Anywho, Mickey has a vet visit later this afternoon (along with the kitties lol) and hopefully we can get started on getting him in for his surgery. I was able to get an approximate quote on the surgery (typical client costs) at $2400-3000. Boy did my butthole pucker up! We've got another option in GA that we're looking at and hopefully I can speak with someone that may be able to assist with reducing the cost of the surgery since we are a tax exempt org now. Cross those fingers!

lol! We've had good luck with Chip In. That way we still get the money donated, even if we don't reach 100% of our goal We like the "widget" option of Chip In too so we can post the HTML on their petfinder pages and all. I made a fundable page for Sassy's HW treatment costs and went back to chip in for the widget lol! The widgets make it SO easy for people to donate! Once we get a better idea of costs, we'll get one up for sure and spread the Chip in page around Facebook and all

We've been blessed! We found another vet through the help of the shelter that Mickey came from and this man is going to do the surgery, the HW treatment and the neuter for likely right at $500 for EVERYTHING. *happy dance*
And Mickey has also gained probably 20lbs in the last month and a half. He weighs a whopping 62lbs! He looks SO good. Sorry didn't have my camera so you're gonna have to trust me but yeah, SO excited!
