Hi, I have this foster dog that we were only suppose to have for a month and are now looking elsewhere for a forever home for her. We were told she may be mixed. I would like your opinions- I don't know too much about this breed. We think she's 1 1/2 years old. I HOPE I can figure out how to attach a picture!! It may be too big. Jeanine

shes so pretty ... she looks mixed... distinctively german shepard/pitbull, hence the ears

HI, Thanks for your input. We have no idea of her background. It would be neat to do a dna test just to see. I wonder how much they cost? With two other dogs though, money is tight. Jeanine

DNA tests are anywhere from 60-140, depending on the brand and the size of the breed list they compare to.

I don't know that I see shepherd lol! We've got a bully boy in our program who's ears stand STRAIGHT up just like that. And he's all bully lol!
And there's a lot of back and forth info about the DNA tests. I don't think any of them recognize "pit bull" in their line up but instead its a general reference to "Bulldog"

the dna test is a crock, i had it done on 2 of my dogs and the results were far off.. the test recognizes the american staffordshire but not the american pit bull. a member on another board did the dna test for her dog, and it came back as border collie mix and the dog is a black/white amstaff

I don't think I really would have done the test. I was just curious. And wasn't sure what to tell the potential new owners (if we ever find any) as to if she is mixed or not. I've seen others with ears up too, but like I said I have not been around pits as much. I have a collie and a rottie. Thanks for all your input! Jeanine

I know, Powder and those EARS! I gently held them down once to see what she would look like. What a difference. She looks even cuter. I wonder if she had her ears done or they got that way themselves. Even German Shepards need help with them some times- my brothers did when he had one. He didn't have them cropped, one just went up the other down. She has no other Shepard features though. I guess we'll never know. Hopefully we'll find her a good home soon. Jeanine When I picked her up a few weeks ago from being spayed she came out with her ears down. I NEVER saw her with those ears down. So sad, she was hurting and scared. She got alot of love and TLC when she got home. Poor girl.

Well I think most rescues and shelters list them as pit bull mix when they have no proof. Or they just label them the most dominant breed.

Regardless of what breed snickers is, she is a very beautiful dog and anyone just looking at her would steadfastly fall in love with her...I would lable her mixed bulldog

Well, that's what I'll do. Label Powder as a mixed bull dog. But I'm sure wherever she goes they won't mind. She's a sweetheart. Thanks for all the input.

hi, Well, we may have found a home for Powder. Keeping our fingers crossed. He wants to pick her up this coming weekend. I just want to stress to him to keep working with her and not let her "take over" with her dominant personality. We've come a long way with her. And now that it's been about 3 months that we've had her, the "honeymoon period" is over and she's starting to test us again. Little stinker. Taking shoes- she's NEVER done before. SO we are going to warn him of this too, not to let his guard down. Any suggestions about this ? We've been making her "earn' her toys ( sitting on command- good behavior- longer walks-). Thank you for any advice. Jeanine

She looks like my Otter whom we think of as a mix of APBT and Australian Cattle dog mix. Who, conicidently, came from the streets of Milwaukee himself. No DNA test was done-just based on looks and inate heeling/herding behavior. I have seen many PB with upright ears of that size and shape-though most of those were from unreputable breeders and could have been mixed. Many high quality (or read non mixed) APBT that have upright ears tend to have more thin/delicate ear structure that typically lends itself to cropping. Powder appears to have the finer ears of a full blooded APBT vs Otter's who's ears appear to have a thicker structure and wider base.
She is adorable.
