New Hope's newest intake. And PLEASE feel free to pass this along to anyone you think might be willing to donate even a few dollars. Suffering from a (chemical?) burn, this boy needs our help! Please consider donating towards his care. Although we do not know right now how much his care may cost, an amount donated in excess will go to care for the other deserving dogs in our program or other dogs that may come in to our program like Phoenix here. helpfixlily.chipin.com/phoenix

Do you know what happened? Was he surrendered, found on the streets?

He was brought in as a stray by animal control. We have no clue what happened... but d*mn it pisses me right off. One of the volunteers at the shelter fell for him hard core and asked if she could foster him until he could be put on their adoption floor. Unfortunately they won't put a dog with cropped ears out on their floor, so she asked that he be sent to rescue. That's when they called on us. So we had her fill out one of our foster apps quick, processed it and got her approved and she took him home yesterday. We're still looking for a more long term foster home for him tho, as she is only able to foster him temporarily. He's a really sweet boy. It kills me, because he wants to be right up in your lap getting all sorts of love but ya gotta be careful due to his burns. He shows an excited interest in meeting other dogs, nothing snarky or rude. He did very well in his eval with the shelter and then again with us. Even with the touch sensitivity test I did... tho we'll have to do this all over again once his wounds have healed, he wasn't the least bit bothered by what we did. In fact, he welcomed the attention and asked for more. These dogs just totally amaze me... after what Phoenix has been through... he is so completely willing and welcoming to people and touch.

He and the Fred dog are twins, and Tyler in CA just took a blue pup in with the same type of injury. I wonder why the huge increase in this injury recently.

Garland, I think it comes and goes. There was another in CA a couple of years ago, another in the New England area after that I think. Then shortly after another in a different area here. We couldn't help her because the shelter said she was too dog aggro and wouldn't release her.
Do you know if Fred ever legitimately made it to safety?

Doesn't he!? ;D His temp foster mom did such a wonderful job with him and his new foster mom has been great too! We've also had a hand full of people call interesting in adopting this sweet lil boy already. Unfortunately they're out of our area so we can't do any sort of foster to adopt with any of them. One girl who called interested in Phoenix, when she heard about our 3 emaciated girls, decided she'd rather foster one of them. I'm hoping she means it and that we'll hear from her again after this holiday weekend is over. She is actually in our area and lives very close to our vet so that would work out perfectly for one of these sweet girls!

In Meth State of the Union, we are seeing burns on dogs in areas of meth labs. Not sure if there is a connection, but it appears meth heads like to share their toxic chemicals with animals in not so friendly of a way.
Kat, this is a very uplifting story. I LOVE stories about animals beating the odds against human cruelty and having a new life. KUDOS TO YOU and ALICIA

And an update here...Phoenix's foster mom fell in love with him and will be keeping him We're going to have her continue to foster him until the end of the month to make sure he's good and healthy and then finalize. We've only got one dog officially available for adoption left! At least for the next month until Piper gets better. Oye!
