how do these transporters work? I live in Maine, and when I see a dog I like, I can't get there because it is too far away. ie: NYC- never been there, and dont dare to go-i'll get lost in NYC and never come back!

Basically a rescue transport is (usually) a chain of drivers who transport a dog from a shelter/foster to an approved home, or rescue. You'd have to contact the rescue group and make sure you're an approved adopter, and then you can use the links to organize a transport. Usually each "leg" of a transport is about an hour drive, and the volunteers agree on meeting places for doggie hand offs. It's a great way to get dogs in homes who would otherwise be euthanized or left at the shelter for a long time.

THere are also numerous volunteer transport groups out there who can help to put together ground transports with volunteer drivers.

Robin Budin I use www.safedogexpress.com They go from Maine to FL and every state on the east coast for a little over $100.00. They do a great job, get the dogs out every 3-4 hours and take puppies out every hour. They also go to AL and TN. Anywhere near the I-95 corridor207-571-4371

I have to go to the Manhattan shelter (depressing place) once in a while but won't even try to go to Brooklyn.

Make sure the transporters are reputable. Recently the rescue group who i got sierra from wanted a transport to pick up a rottie pup in mass and bring pup to the rescue , the transporter never met with the next leg and kept the pup then dumped the pup in a shelter..

Yep it sure was, one woman drove 2 hours to meet thd other woman thru a storm and waited .. Thdn the one who stole thd pup called the cops on the rescue . It was a huge fiasco and the pup was given to a shelter by the stealer
