Well I have talked it over with my family and our home is soon to be ready to foster. I don't know where to get started. I keep hitting dead ends. I have searched for rescues but so far the closest ones are almost 2 hours away. I am still waiting to hear from them on visiting with them. Maybe that is the only rescues around here? These are NY rescues anyone familiar with Northern NJ rescues?

what breed do you want to foster? are you willing to foster for as long as it takes for the dog to be adopted? which could take months or even years..(out of the pits had a dog in foster care for 5 years before she was adopted). fostering is a long term commitment.. are you ready for a crate/rotate if rocky doesnt like the foster and vice versa? are you ready for training 2 dogs? (dogs pick up bad habits from other dogs even if they are well behaved lol) . do you want to foster a puppy or an adult dog? are you ready to teach housebreaking/crate training/ basic obedience/doggy manners to the new foster?

also, normally you sign up as a volunteer first, see how the rescue works, then ask them to foster. if they approve you then you start fostering.

OH MY I just wrote a long long story and I got signed out
Anyway Long story short I ended up saying that I wanted to volunteer first but I cant seem to find a rescue around here. I would like to help the bully breeds. Was curious what you knew about RBARI they are about 40 min from me. They do have a foster ap on their website but I would volunteer first. The one place I wanted to volunteer is too far for me to commit. But what I really think is I should just go do it at West Milford. Its on my way to pick up Rocky's food and Groceries. I can easily go there weekly. This way I can learn more and get to know the dogs. I am in no way in a rush to do this. I wanted to start by asking my families blessing. The next step was to volunteer. So again Thank You Maryellen.

RBARI pulls dogs from down south and brings them up here. that is about all i know about them. west milford shelter has a ton of pitbulls there from the rescue bust they had, they could use a ton of help walkng the dogs and such.. you can also find a shelter that allows dogs to be fostered, west milford might be up to that i am not sure i havent been there in a year . any rescue or shelter would want you to volunteer your services first to see how you are, and how you do with the dogs there, then you would apply to foster once you got your feet wet.. there are really not many reputable rescues around that i know of unfortunately. the only shelter that i know for a fact that uses foster homes is www.libertyhumane.org i have fostered for them before and i love them, they are VERY bully friendly and savvy, but they are located in Jersey City . they are one of the few shelters i highly recommend

Hmmm sounds like it be best to like team up with someone to go to Liberty then right? RBARI did not realize that. They have alot of pitbulls too I hear. I did find a review page on the shelter and seems the complaint is they dont easily adopt out. www.insiderpages.com/b/3717853816 Which is a good thing unusual for a shelter I guess. I think a couple of those pit bulls at West Milford have been adopted. They only have a few there the rest I believe are being held someplace else or fostered. I would love to volunteer at Animal Farm but it is just too far to go often enough. So I am working on my Dad since he is much closer. Then I can be his assistant. LOL. He is agility trainer. Next you will want to know why we dont do agility. Well mostly because I cant trust Rocky not to bolt and they train at unfenced 50 acre property. Besides I do not have time for competitions and family.

RBARI is good that they are strict adopting out their dogs, that is a good thing.... you could sign up to volunteer with them and see how they work, since they are closer....

So I went. They were very excited to see a volunteer. I think they would want me to come on a set day weekly. I would have to come to like an orientation. I would clean cages, socialize and walk dogs. Apparently the dog walking training is 6weeks. I kind of wanted to be able to come in weekly on my free time but not be totally committed to come. Like if I did not feel up to it one day. In other words not expected to be there I guess just do it when I can. And Socialize and work basic obedience. I may visit RBARI tomorrow. I did find out more in my travels and I would like to run it by you so I will send a message.

i sent you an email reply. when you volunteer, the dogs need a set schedule, so you would have to go when you should. volunteering means going even if you dont feel like it, as you would have to be totally commited to doing it on the scheduled days.

ok so its different than at the WHS where you just go and sign in and walk some dogs. That is all I have been exposed too. There I guess the shelter workers are paid so the only volunteer work is to walk the dogs and it is on a walk in basis. Where WM everyone there is a volunteer.
