Someone on MySpace has posted the following:

The Bad Rap Scam

It is time the fraudulent “pit bull rescue” group Bad Rap was exposed for what they are.

Bad Rap has gotten in the media recently, highlighting some of the Vick dogs they took. This is a group that regularly takes contradictory positions, sometimes stating they recognize the need to euthanize many seized game dogs, while other times condemning the groups that perform the euthanasia. They want to have it both ways.

Now Bad Rap is declaring that Pat Patrick was not involved in dogfighting, and did not sell dogs for fighting. How would they know?

How is that a group of so called “pit bull experts” have completely missed the impact that Bolio and Tombstone had have had on the dogfighting world? How is it these so called “experts” have missed all the ROM dogs Pat Patrick produced?

The fact is that Bad Rap was asked to evaluate the dogs for possible adoptions. Pima County said no, but did agree to let a different pit bull rescuer look at the dogs. Bad Rap is lashing out, throwing a temper tantrum, and saying Pat Patrick didn’t breed dogs for fighting.

Is Bad Rap a pit bull rescue group, or are they shills for a dogfighters defense lawyer?

Pat Patrick has been a major figure in dogfighting going back to the 1970's. He is the architect of both the Bolio and Tombstone bloodlines, both of which are big in dogfighting circles. Everyone that knows anything about professional dogfighting knows what he was breeding for.

Bad Rap is pissed that they were denied the chance to evaluate the dogs. Someone else is going to look at them. Bad Rap charged the government an arm and a leg to evaluate the Vick dogs. Apparently they wanted another big pay day, and got denied. So as a result, they are saying Pat Patrick wasn't involved in dogfighting.

My point is that they shouldn't go around playing defense lawyer for a dogfighter, and instead focus on rescue.

How would they know anyway? They haven't gone to Pima County to review the evidence.

On their blog they said Pat Patrick wasn't a dogfighter, but rather a puppy miller. They clearly don't know what they are talking about. But I learned more today.

When the Vick dogs were to be evaluated, Bad Rap apparently got paid a ton of money to come look at the dogs. This time they expected another big pay day. The Pima County government said no, and instead chose another rescuer to come look at the dogs. Bad Rap is throwing a temper tantrum now, and running down the people that brought the case forward.

It's very sad. I wish they would focus on the dogs instead of this silliness.

Does anyone know anything? I have never heard anything negative about BadRap before.

I have disagreements about many things BR does (especially their support for BSL and then denying it), but this sounds like confused, half-cocked BS. How does that MySpace poster know that Patrick IS involved in dogfighting? And why would BR be angry if he is?

Regardless of whether or not Patrick was currently fighting dogs, he IS a well-known dog fighter/breeder, at least of the past. I do not in any way doubt that some of this dogs now were going to people who would fight them. But my bet is that BR is not jumping to label the dogs "fighters" to help them get a fair shake - and as far as I know, Patrick wasn't even brought in on charges of dog fighting, but charges of BREEDING fighting dogs. There is a difference.

yes, the beef with Patrick in the BR/rescue crowd seems to be that he's a puppymiller.
It almost seems that is worse than if he is a dogfighter...

But at least the AZ laws don't REQUIRE that the dogs be destroyed. Unlike the Boudreaux dogs. Boudreaux's case is still not adjudicated. Imagine if he's found innocent.. but his dogs were destroyed as "contraband".

One of the very positive outcomes of the (sometimes creepy) publicity about the Vick dogs is the greater likelihood that dogs seized in such busts will be treated as individuals and not just destroyed automatically

I do admit to having some queasy feeling reading about busts like this, because a) the dogs usually don't get a fair shake, b) lots of these cases have a "guilty til proven innocent" feel to them, and c) ANY breeder of APBTs could potentially be a target, under the right circumstances, whether or not they are actually involved in dog fighting (you could argue that breeding Pit Bulls in general is "breeding dogs for fighting").

Now, I don't for a second approve of HOW people like Patrick house, breed and sell their dogs. I have a beef with LOTS of breeders. But I can't help but feel like its the BREED alone that is the reason these people are targeted in the first place, and not that there is sufficient evidence that they are engaged in illegal activities. There is something creepy about how these busts are carried out, EVEN in cases where there is legitimate cause.

But since I'm on the outside, I can only speculate about such things. For now, I'm just sad that all these dogs from a legendary line will no longer be contributing to the breed in a positive way. Better than being abused, for sure, but as a serious breed fancier, I can't help but morn the line a bit.

Meanwhile, all the American Bully jackasses are pumping out puppies left and right.

I dont believe this about bad rap .... it is rumors spread by bad pitbull owners etc , bad rap , I have not even heard anything newsworthy and anything can be said on myspace that can be hurtful to any one agency; words that are not true.......

Lotsa lotsa polictics in the rescue world. Which is a shame, but true. That's why I'm very cautious about who I support/send money to, but ALSO whose gossip I listen to.

At the end of the day it's all about aligning yourself with the group you feel most comfortable with and is most in line with your own beliefs.
