Please crosspost appropriately.
Spindletop Refuge has taken in Pit Bulls and AmStaffs from all over the country and many dogs of other breeds and mixes, from Shih Tzus to Wolfdogs, as well. They took in almost five hundred dogs stranded in the aftermaths of Katrina and Rita, reuniting almost 350 of them with their original owners and rehoming many of the rest. I have personally been involved in the shipment of over a dozen Pit Bulls and two Wolfdogs to Spindletop that came from such diverse sources as the Animal Orphanage, Animal Adoption Center, Animal Emergency Services (by way of my own home fostering), the mean streets of Trenton (ditto) and a Maryland Wolfdog seizure.
Spindletop has recently moved from seven acres or so within the city limits of Houston Texas out to the country about an hour north of Houston in Willis, Texas. Along with much larger grounds, there has been a massive upgrade in the size and quality of the facilities. The arrival of Spindletop required the drilling of two new wells. Unfortunately, they were given some bum advice by the first well drillers, who convinced them that drilling to 100 feet would be sufficient. It has turned out to be anything but and Spindletop, despite the almost Noachian rains that have affected eastern Texas over the past two years, faces an imminent water crisis. Especially those of you who have experience with the day by day slog labor of large scale animal keeping will understand what a crisis this is, since the amount of water used to water almost 200 dogs and a variety of other animals is only a relatively small portion of the total water usage in a facility like this, most of which is used for CLEANING.
The bottom line is that it will cost over $15,000 to ditg two THOUSAND foot wells. Please dig as deep into your pockets as you possibly can to help out with this huge, out of the blue, emergency expense.
Details on how to donate can be gotten from the Spindletop website:

Thanks! And don't forget to "pass the hat"!
