I'm just finishing this book which revolves around a Golden Retriever rescuer with a mysterious past named Amy Redwing, a mystical Golden named Nickie, Amy's bf who has a psychotic ex, and a bunch of PI's/hit men after everyone. I haven't read a book this engaging in a while. Was my first Koontz book, and I only read it because of the dog on the cover! ;D
Check it out!

Koontz often has a Golden Retriever character in his books, but I think this is the first one where the dogs are the main plot. I like a lot of his books, but some of them are just creepy/scary/monster stories. His "Odd Thomas" books are kind of interesting

I think I would categorize this as a suspense. It wasn't really scary - it was suspenseful and a bit dark. But good. Then again, I'm a big horror/dark suspense fan, so

I just finished one of Koontz's older books called Fear Nothing. The dog in the story is not the main character, but a nice comedic side-kick. It was good. Also Watchers by Koontz has a dog as one of the main characters. Darkest Evening came out right around the time when our own Golden was having his health problems, so I haven't picked it up yet. I'm a huge Dean Koontz fan, so I'll read it eventually.....
Another really great dog story is by Theodore Taylor called The Trouble With Tuck. I read it MANY years ago when I was in elementary school. It's marketed as being for 9-12 yr. olds, but it's still a good read for anyone. I will warn you.... It's a tear jerker! But still an awesome story of the bond a girl has with her dog.
