I just wanted to comment on how cool and smart pit bulls are! For a few months now, I've been able to say "where's bone?" and Stella will whine and launch herself off to the last place she left her bone! I'm not even sure how I taught her this, other than being stuck on bed rest alot and I've needed her to get her toys herself. I always say the name of things when I give them to her, and I think the "where" part didn't matter at first, but now the word "where" means "look for"... and it is expanding! "Where's Daddy?" means go harass my husband (I mean go find him ), where's Elmo? means find the tabby cat, which is GREAT because this particular cat is an escape artist... And Stella has learned not only to locate Elmo if he gets out, but to herd him back into the house with gentle nips and pushing! Stella gets a great kick out of this, because she is helping me and I'm sure it's fun for her to be the boss! "Lay down, chew bone" is another one she gets now, going to the little bone chewing cot I set up for her because on the bed it is disgusting... And of course, lay down, sit, stay, come... But isn't the stuff our dogs can learn amazing? This might sound kind of silly, but it's a Big Deal here in this house. And I feel that Stella gets happy, or at least a thrill, out of being able to communicate with me! I wonder what is next? Do your dogs do anything weird like this? ;

I've taught my dogs this, too. Dogs learn well through repetition, hearing a word that is consitently associated with an item/behavior. It's cute how excited my Luca gets when I say, "Where's your bone! Get that bone!" And he runs off looking for it. ;D
