let's say there was a training collar that only had a low/buzz setting and that was truly not annoying or painful. Or instead of a buzz, it had a low sound setting. And suppose you could associate the buzz/sound with good things (like a treat) and used it to train one specific behavior, such as a recall.
So you would use this collar to recall your dog from a distance beyond your voice.
Would that be acceptable to positive trainers?

Uhhh...so it's basically a neutral stimulus paired with something the dog likes, and used as a cue for a recall?

I knew someone once who had a deaf doggie and she attached an old school beeper to the dog's collar. She would "call" the dog back to her that way (she had taught the pup that buzzing meant "mommy gives yummy food!")

When we had the deaf dog, we were advised to do that. Unfortunately he passed before we ever had time to work with him on things.

alot of people use that vibrating collar for deaf dogs.. since it just vibrates and there is no shock its not a bad thing.. i was going to get that for jesse if i had done the TECA surgery on her as she would have been completely deaf from the surgery and would have needed to wear that type of collar.

Since she also talks about "punishment" and "correction". I just don't believe that they are NOT about pain. Different from the "vibrating for deaf dogs" thing ME writes about.

The way to shut these idiots up is to ask what quadrant they are using. They all claim it doesn't hurt blah blah blah, but if they aren't using positive reinforcement, they are training using an aversive, period. If it wasn't uncomfortable/painful, it wouldn't work the way they say it does.
