Everytime I read something like this, I still can't believe my eyes! Seized pit bulls being evaluated for adoption www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJournalOnline/News/EastVolusia/evlEAST03041808.htmThe 31 pit bulls taken from a Daytona Beach house in late March will be evaluated by Halifax Humane Society officials but some likely will be healthy enough to be put up for adoption, spokeswoman Michelle Pari said Thursday. Earlier this week, a county judge decided the animals could no longer stay under the ownership of three people because the dogs were neglected and used for dogfighting. The dog owners -- Wylene Walker, her son Tharvellus Walker and her brother Theodore Lock -- also were ordered to pay the Humane Society more than $11,000 for the dogs' care. The animals -- initially 32 were taken, but one died -- were confiscated March 28 after a Volusia County Sheriff's Office arrested Tharvellus Walker and two other suspects. Members of the task force saw the dogs and the dismal conditions. Since the dogs have been at the Humane Society, one of the females had four puppies, officials there said. It's not clear how many dogs will be available for adoption. Pari said the dogs, like all others they adopt out, will be spayed or neutered. In addition, Humane Society officials will conduct home checks of the new owners to make sure the animals are not being abused.

I am also happy to see an increase in the number of owners required to pay for the care of their dogs when found guilty of animal cruelty. I hope that continures.
