so i have a question.... my pup, 5.5 month, blue nose pit occasionally likes to hump his bed. not his crate/room, he's all good in there. but in the kitchen and the living room, we got him lounging mats he likes to hump them SOMETIMES is this something i should be discouraging? is he stressed out? or just burning off some energy? i can't imagine it being sexual, he's only 5.5 months.... any thoughts?

Is he neutered? If not, get that done ASAP!
Discourage the humping as you don't want to let him know that is OK. No, it will not hurt him, but you wouldn't want him to get his rocks off on your guests or family.
He could be stressed, anxious, or just be having some fun. It's normal behavior. If he does it constantly and doesn't stop, then he might be a little OCD and that's his way of coping. Get him fixed and you should see a difference.

Was also going to suggest getting him neutered if not already done.

thanks for the great advice! he is scheduled for neutering in 4 weeks. he has to take a course of antibiotics for the next 21 days cuz my girlfriend found a deer tick on him. we are just being cautious, but the vet recommends neutering after the course of meds

Well Rocky is neutered and almost 5 years old and still humping blankets and beds. Its not constant. We do discourage it but you can tell when you take his blanket away he is all riled up and panting. It also is his way of getting attention. Rocky is a real attention getter. Especially if we have company, he will act very naughty mostly stealing things. Usually I can move him on to something else by offering a bone. He will stop and chew it vigorously sometimes he just figures out on his own to go get his bone and go to town chewing.

My Yogi is neutered, he is 5 yrs old and a bed humper but only at night and only when the little one initialy jumps into bed... I dont think it is sexual but a mischievous antic in trying to get attention. he does this often, pulls the blankets forwards and humps...no problem but it is embarrassing and it does annoy my little half poo and she likes to sleep by my chest away from Yogi who sleeps behind where my butt is...LOL

Yep that is exactly what Im talking about. Bunching the blankets up with front paws spends most of the time pushing the blanket to get it just perfect position to hump. I agree exactly that a naughty behavior to get some attention. And yes it is embarrassing but the whole ritual to get the blanket just right, one cant help but to laugh. People are like "what is he doing" and the more I take the blanket away the more fired up he gets. We call his blanket his "girlfriend" or "bitch blanky". Like I said we dont encourage other than the uncontrollable urge to laugh during the ritual. I take blanket away put away in closet and then he might go for one of his beds or pillows and start the ritual again.

LOL @ Bitch Blanky!!
I've noticed (its happens very very rarely) but if I pick up Chubs' orthopedic mat to move it his hindquaters start doing the humping motion. He doesn't try to mount anything, just sorta stands there: front half normal, back half humping nothing. I just say "Hey, knock it off" and tap his hip. He tends to stop
