I've been in the new place about two weeks now and Chubby has been there one. On walks we have come across a few neighborhood dogs (well, the ones that the owners didn't literally yank in the other direction when they saw us coming). Chubby generally still meets at the nose and while I was taking him downstairs my new neighbor and her female boxer were going upstairs. Well, Chubby's first reaction is he got a little under her head and licked her chin and neck. He then sniffed her side and her belly. He then proceeded to lick her nipples! Yeah, my boy is a total perv! The boxer's owner told me that her dog Roxy is usually a little dog selective but seemed to like Chubby. About twice I had to pull Chubby back because he hips started to air hump (he wasn't trying to mount, just air humping). At one point Roxy snapped at Chubby while he was sniffing her side and Chubby backed off right away. Once they were a few feet apart Chubby made his growling-whiney noise and then shut up. Neighbor continued up and I continued down.
My question is: Is all the licking normal for introductions? Also, Chubby tends to go nose first to sniff and I'm worried he will get hurt when the wrong dog decides thats not polite, is this a behavior that can be redirected or is it a sign of an overly pushy dog on Chubby's part?

That's what Jackie tends to do...looking forward to an answer.

Rocky usually gets like a stiff kind of posture ears back and allows other dogs to sniff and lick his stuff. Once they do that he will do it back and if the other dog is cool with it he will want to try to wrestle. He has had females and males snap at him and he will totally back off and look all sad and not want to go near them. Im not too sure how he would feel about a nose to nose. I think Rocky would be ok with it as long as the other dog is cool. It might make him nervous but I noticed Rocky will literately turn his body kind of putting his stuff in the other dogs face. Maybe that is how he avoids them getting in his face right away. I am pretty sure other dogs have greeted him at the nose. and he turned away giving calming signals and saying sniff my but first. But I dont know how to change Chubby from nose greeting. or if another dog would be cool with it or not.

nose to nose greetings can usually go wrong fast. you can train chubby to do butt greetings but that too depending on the dog as some dogs dont like noses in their butts either...

you could always teach him to ignore other dogs and just not do any dog greetings, this way you avoid a potential problem. i dont let rufus meet any dogs at all , he is only allowed to walk with them a few times then maybe get a sniff in ..

Yeah when I do walks with Maryellen and friends the dogs basically walk no greeting. They will sometimes sneak in sniffs at each other and some will tell the others off. It works well everyone gets along no problems. You should really come with us some time. Only about an hour ride from the City. I would love to meet Chubs.

I thought it was just Andrew who preferred meeting nose-to-nose! I usually make Andrew sit/stay at a distance and monitor the behavior of both dogs before I let him approach - and I've been lucky that none of the meetings have gone poorly. At the first sign of raised hackles or teeth baring, Andrew gets called back to sit/stay and we go some other way.

So interesting turn of events, Roxy (neighbor female Boxer) has encountered Chubby a few times while one walks, and sometimes we walk them a few feet away from each other (just a short while because neither will potty while the other one is around, lol). Well, last two times they saw each other Roxy sticks her butt right his Chubby's face and he either gets the 'humps' (where he air humps) or he licks her lady parts like the little pervert he is. Is this a step in the right direction? Roxy used to snap after a short while because she was a little dog selective but now...she's acting like such a ! Also, non-pervy is how she jumps and spins on her leash when she wants to jump-play with him and he jumps too (no spinning on his part). They are both still on leases obviously and both kept a short distance away because they are still in the 'getting to know you' phase I guess. But theya re both tail wagging, happy-whinning and being all pervy.

lol! dogs licking each other's parts and being both licker and willing lickee is, I believe, a bonding-type thing so it's good (assuming that their postures are happy, like it sounds Roxy and Chubs' are). At least, my 2 boys do it to each other all the time. The Queen does not lower herself to allow the boys to do it to her... every once in awhile she'll lick one of the boyz, though...

Yeah, ditto to what Em said. By the way, what you described pretty much sums up Dharma's and Otis' relationship. Disgusting.
