Pit Boss to speak at Denver rally

Shorty Rossi, Animal Planet’s Pit Boss, is teaming up with Denver Pit Bull Enthusiasts on Friday, January 21stto head up a peaceful protest against Denver’s current Pit Bull ban.
Since the breed ban was enacted in 1989, the estimated number of euthanized Pit Bulls in Denver, Colorado has reached roughly 3500. Family dogs, therapy dogs, and simply any dog that two out of three area breed “experts” determine have the characteristics of a Pit Bull, have been killed per the city ordinance.
“Countless Pit Bulls and Pit mixes are euthanized with their only crime being the zip code they live in”, says Denver resident, Holly Cue. Holly is spreading the word about the downtown rally to help generate support for dog owners hoping to overturn the breed ban.
Shorty Rossi holds a special place for the Pit Bull breed. He claims that the breed is responsible for “saving his life," by being such loyal companions through some of the roughest times, according to Animal Planet. Shorty rescued one of his current Pit Bulls, Geisha, from a Los Angeles shelter.
Other speakers will be joining the television Pit Bull rescuer and production manager in an effort to help officials re-think their strategy in preventing dog attacks.
The event will take place from 11am to 3pm at the Denver City and County Building at 1437 Bannock Street in downtown Denver.
Many say Denver, and other cities across the United States have it all wrong; breed bans should not be enacted, but rather “dangerous dog legislation” in place of specific breed legislation.
Friday, Denver residents will come together to fight current BSL. With the help of petitions, such as on change.org, the voices of reason amongst a peaceful rally, and the open ears of the legislators, perhaps a new leaf will turn for dog owners in Denver.
