So finally went down to the mall to buy the Freedom Harness. I could not believe it was true. The designer of the harness and collars lives in my town.
Anyway I got a nice lesson on how and why the harness works.
I wont get much use out of it yet with this weather and the streets being so narrow with no sidewalks to walk on. However I also realized that with the most important use of the harness on the back I would have to either cut a hole in Rockys coat or place it over the coat.
So it works by a martingale on the back. It also has a chest connection and for 5.00 he gave me a leash that is made to work with this harness and has to connectors. It can convert from a 3ft to a 5ft leash. I did not feel I needed a training leash but since he told me I get it for only 5.00 for buying the harness, could not pass up a leash for 5 bucks.
The leash can be connected to the back. Or back and chest or back and collar. I was told never to use the chest alone. but ok to use back alone. The designer believes this is better than chest style. His opinion was chest style only turns their body in a way can be damaging to the hips.
The back connection when the dog pulls hugs him. No choking or rubbing hair on the chest. The harness is designed to not go under the legs and the front is designed a little different from other chest type harness.
I bought it since they claim there will be less rubbing. And the other harnesses I have do rub in the front and the belly part.
The belly part on this harness is encased in velvet material.
Last the owner of the store and his wife designer of the harness sell only USA made products in their store. Which is nice.

He has told me they like to help rescues out. Helping a dog to get a home is a passion of theirs and they will do whatever they can to help. So I will be keeping in touch with them. They are also willing to come do demonstrations and talks for any organization.
The harness is an very interesting concept. He tells me the designer is an aerospace engineer. I believe they have this store and products for fun. It is not their sole income.
I still cant believe they live right here.

If I end up liking this harness I may be asking Ella's lead to make me a custom lead. I don't really care for nylon leads they hurt my hand.
Plus since this lead handle is designed to move to change from collar to back use. It is hard to roll in my hand and use properly. I like to walk Rocky on a short lead real close to me but be able to let it go longer for potty and sniff. What I think sold me on this harness was the way I can have a separate connection to the martingale so I can use just that if I wish or if he starts pulling me to hard which he can do to go do a sniff having this leash connected also to his back I can pull up giving him a hug. I have talked in the past how I tried it at a street fair. Seemed to work well but I did not get into a pull situation at all. so unable to compare between my sensation and this at that point.
All I know is if he (owner) is willing to work with rescues and we can get the local shelter some of these harnesses that is worth my purchase even if I dont find this harness useful for me they are way better than those dam slip leads the shelter uses. Dogs would get adopted much faster.
