To continue this from human photo thread.
We got a special blanket for Rocky when he first got run of the house. He was about a year old. Rocky was not and still is not allowed on the couch when we are home and using the living room. He has to be invited. But when he was first not allowed at all but allowed to be out of crate when no one was home. We found the evidence. So I bought a blanket that goes on the couch so he lays on that. If we invite him to share couch time the blanket goes on the couch and I also put it on before I go to bed because he is not allowed on my bed PERIOD! sometimes he chooses to be in my room on his bed sometimes he goes onto the couch. He has earned to be invited on the couch. Once he pulls the bull crap of not wanting to get off when told then he looses the privilege again. I never want him just going up on the couch when ever he feels like it.

My dogs are SPOILED! They are allowed on the couch, BUT humans are always first. If they are in a spot I want to be in, they must move. They do really well with this. All we have to do is say "Down" (or point to the ground for Jack the deaf one) and they jump off.
I've thought about not allowing them on the couch except for in a specific spot, but I'm just a huge SUCKER for cuddling!!!

I will have to try that with jackie eventually. Right now she's still selectively listening to my so i dont think she's at the point to have earned it

Yeah she should be getting off couch when told. Even with my kids I like to run a home that is loving, fair but FIRM with respect. You have been saying she listens selectively. Are you using hand signals as well? All of my words have hand cue's to go with it. Some that I made up. The only one that does not have a hand signal is EAT. "OFF" the couch includes a snap of fingers and a point of my finger away from couch. Sometimes just the snap and point is enough. Sometimes I have to growl the word off to get him to move. When that happens he looses the privilege to join me. I was firm on no couch but I had to pick my battle if he were to be out of crate while not home he was going on couch weather I liked it or not. But I considered it very respectful for him to get off before I came in. Also that in the early stage he did not dare go on the couch if I were home. That's when the battle went to getting a blanket. I like to have a nice looking blanket not just a crummy sheet. It is like this only Rockys is beige and fuzzy extremely soft. costcoconnection.texterity.com/connection/200508/?pg=17 it was 20.00 at B.J.'s but looks like costco has a better selection.

interesting you mention the hand signals. she responds better to those than words, even w/out words. She has sit, down & stay with hand commands, she's pretty good at those w/out distractions
Happen to have a good link for hand signals?
maybe i need a new trainer but she's told me to work with the voice first then add the hand signal.

It kind of came natural to me to use hand signals. My dad suggested it. My trainer said you can see how in tune Rocky is into me body language wise. I always put them together. I find Sit and using a slanted hand palm forward tips of fingers down. Or stand flat hand palm up pull back toward you. Stand was the hardest one for Rocky trainer had me add that hand signal and that worked. I am not sure where I got all the ideas from. I am sure there was at least one website. I dont think it matters though you can make your own. My dad uses a fist up for sit. Where I use the flat slanted hand. I could make a video for you. I probably have some of it. I have not been able to find my disk of videos. I had one that I sent to my trainer to show her the tricks Rocky learned. I could just take photos and post them for you too. I don't always have to use words which has been helpful in therapy and at the vet etc. Like relax and put head down can be done with out saying a word or just a whisper. That is my favorite one. We are going out for a walk now so if you can give me an idea of what cue or command you would like to know what hand signal I use I will post a photo when I get a chance.
