Ms. Jackie has developed yet another new thing over the past 2 weeks or so.
Whenn i take her out back to the bathroom, sometimes she'll sit on the step and i can't get her to move. Sometimes we get to the bathroom spot, she wont go, and she'll sit and not move, sometimes right after she goes, she'll sit and not want to move. (sometimes the last two above are stands without moving)
She does this with both Dana & I
I've tried the following: -wait it out with leash in hand -high pitch excited sounds with 'let's go' -tension & pulling on the leash(not a jerk) -nudging her on the hind quarters with my hand. -dropping the leash and walking in.
The last seems to work eventually, but she doesn't immediately follow. sometimes she'll stay out for a while when i dont have the time.
Any thoughts?

When ya gotta go ya gotta go. Your just going to have to continue having a party when she poops and putting the command to it. But if I really dont have time I would run around the yard with him first. But not if she just ate. If that is the case just walk a few laps around the yard. Then go to spot and walk back and forth at the spot with her. Rocky likes to walk back and forth and find the perfect spot. He likes to go behind trees and bushes. He does not like to be watched. Ask Maryellen, when we go to Bear Mt. Rocky has a tree that he waits until we get too and goes behind it. If he has to go again he will look for a Rock or something. When I am out of the yard sometimes it takes a while for him to go. There was a time when he would not go until we got back home. Now he walks fast and pulls a bit until he finds a good spot. With me saying that's a good spot. find a spot, that's a good spot. eventually he finds a good spot.

thanks for the info. Actually, sometimes i can't even get her off of the top step to go out in the yard.(she loves the yard by the way) Other times after she pees, she'll just sit there and not want to move, or take a few steps and sit, not wanting to walk.
it is strange

Sometimes I have to throw biscuits out in the yard to get him to go. Or say is that a Cat! I swear. There are sometimes he goes out and just sits or stands at the top of the stairs patrolling and assessing. Enjoying sniffing the breeze.

btw...she also does this behavior in the house at times. She'll sit on the top step where she can assess the world...and i can't get her to move. Just not sure how to handle...and really just dont want to do anything that reinforces or rewards her for it.

Yeah she probably already got rewarded for it. Get out the really rewarding food and lure her if you have to for starts. Put a long lead on her when she does it. Call her and if she does not come right away pull her toward you. then reward when she starts coming toward you. Luring always works for Rocky. Even if she is outside on top of stairs and you are behind her if she moves down the stairs throw the treat on the ground in front of her. If she goes when you put a cue to it then throw lots of treats.

Sometimes I have to throw biscuits out in the yard to get him to go. Or say is that a Cat! LMAO! Only time mine won't go is in bad weather. Otherwise, the problem I have is getting them to come back inside.

rufus can and does hold it all day if he doesnt feel like going when i take him out . i give him 15 minutes. if he doesnt go i say oh well and back in the house we go. other times he will go right away . sometimes if its too windy or too rainy or too snowy or too icey or the sun isnt in the right spot in the sky he wont pee or poop... and other times he cant wait to get out and go potty... sometimes he will do what jackie does, just stand there ... i think they are just testing us to see how long it takes us to go crazy and they laugh at us when we do lol...
when rufus just stands there in the house i just ignore him, when i ignore him that usually works as he craves attention. even negative attention is attention (think kids that do bad things just to get attention, it might be bad attention but the parent is still giving them the satisfaction of attention )
and when we are outside and he decides to not move i just tell him once "lets go", if he doesnt move i just start to walk and drag his butt until he gets going..
