I'm sitting on the sofa with Lola and Rocky snuggled up next to me as I watch an episode of Stargate SG-1, when Rocky starts whining and faux-barking. I look over and his hackles are up the entire length of his body. His eyes are jumping, he's twitching, snarling... and then he stops. I imagine that the dog next door is a part of his dreams. He only reacts like this when awake when she's out in the yard.
Jackson had dream reactions almost identical every time. He would open his eyes as if awake, give small barks in threes, then chomp and smack his "lips", finally ending his dream with multiple tails wags, thumping loudly on the floor or sofa or bed. Only he knew what his dreams were. I always smiled when he did this, thinking only that he's happy in his dreams, even though most of his life was a torture for him.
Lola never dreams. She sleeps soundly all the time.

Awww, Rocky! You get that neighbor dog in your dreams!
I like to think that their dreams are happy... chasing bunnies and eating them in a single gulp, that sort of thing. But who knows what's happening in their furry little heads!

Yeah, but Jackson never had a bad thought for any other living being. The only animal he was intolerant of was Buster, and that only lasted til he was about 8 or 9 years old.
He caught something in his dreams, though. I wish I knew what it was.
Boo Boo used to dream; her feet would twitch and twitch, and that would be the end of it. Jackson was very animated. He was a joy to watch while he slept.

My Rocky dreams a lot. Makes some kind of weird noise. We call it Monkey dreams. Sometimes he makes a growl noise too. The only times he growls is when playing tug so I hope he is dreaming of playing tug. But since he cries too I think he dreams about the dogs bullying him and beating him up in the shelter.

Andrew rarely dreams, but based on his feet twitching, I imagine he must do a LOT of dream-running. Sometimes he's barking or growling lightly, but his tail wags before he wakes. Can only imagine what he dreams!

I love when dogs dream! My mom's lab dreams all the time she "runs" in her sleep, so cute! The family I babysit for has a dog, Posie, that flaps her lips in her sleep. Here's a video I caught of it:

So cute Rocky does that too. He also sucks with his tongue sticking out like a baby does.

Chubby will bark in his sleep, that closed mouth "boof boof boof" bark which I think is adorable. He also will grumble-mumble in his sleep so it almost sounds like he is having a conversation (that can get annoying sometimes if you are trying to sleep!)
My last rescue Bunny (shep-lab mix) would cry and scream in her sleep every night for the four years I had her. Broke my heart every time.

But who knows what's happening in their furry little heads! This line is so funny it has to be bumped back up... With Kai it will be cats..or pigeons disappearing in a puff of feathers. They are so cute sleeping it reminds you of how much they need us.

I think it is kind of cute too. Except it is more like a bark cry very high pitched like a monkey. repeats at a rapid beat.
