OK so my pit Cali sleeps in bed with me and my older beagle Dolly. She is not aggressive toward Dolly when she comes to bed but when my other beagles comes in or the cat she growls and jumps off the bed. Is this normal for her to protect the bed?
My other question is will a pit bull raised with three beagles be more likely to accept medium size dogs rather than dogs her own size. I introduced Cali to a friends two dogs (safely) and she didn't like the dog her size who is a pit mix but got along with the medium sized dog?
Any ideas or help would be great, Cali is my first pit and her behavior and style is different from my beagles. She is not aggressive at all, actually kind of a baby, I just wasn't sure about these two things she has shown me.

It's very common for dogs to guard beds or couches from humans or animals. I'd nip this in the bud by discontinuing her bed freedom - make her work for it more, i.e. sit before she gets on the bed, and teach her off/on on cue. If she doesn't cease and desist with the growling, I'd suspend her bed privleges indefinately. As far as her getting along with medium-sized dogs intstead of larger, with this breed I've found two extremes - they will sometimes get along with small dogs and not large ones, or do better with large ones instead of small ones. I don't know that it is necessarily a 'who you live with' kind of thing, vs. innate tendencies (although of course socialization or lack thereof with a wide variety of dogs can have a profound effect on a dog). Hope that answers your questions!
