So my granddaughter is 4 months old now. The dogs are used to her being around, and they each react differently to her...
Since Cleveland is the new one in the house, I watched him carefully to see how he reacts to her....and to him she doesn't exist. He doesn't pay attention to where she is at, either in her swing, on the floor, or on the sofa or in your arms... But if she is in *my* arms, he gets jealous. He will lean into me, try and sit on my lap, or whine.
I either ignore him, shoo him away or get up and leave.
Winston is curious about her, but he doesn't pay that much attention to her. If you let him he will lick her and sniff her diaper. He is aware of her, and does a good job at knowing where she is at...but he must forget because he will knock into her swing, almost step on her if she is on the floor in her gym... but if she is on my lap he too gets jealous of her. I just tell him to get off the couch and he goes off and does his pouting thing until someone gives him attention.
Mac... has been a surprise. From day one he was curious about the baby. If she cried he would get up to investigate why. He would go lay back down once she had her bottle or whatever it was she needed. He has learned her cries almost it seems. If she is fussy he doesn't react. But if she is hungry, he gets up to check on her. If she gets mad over a diaper change, bath, he used to check on her, but now he doesn't get up.
He always knows where shes' at. He takes care to lay by her if she is in her floor gym, doesn't run into her swing and doesn't try to sit on my lap if I have her.
Now that she is more alert, and fun... I will hold her and have Mac sit in front of me. I take her hand and pet him with it and all the while I say gentle... and good boy Mac.
The other two dogs won't sit still long enough for that.
I'm beginning to think Mac is her dog... but we'll see.
My daughter will be moving out in the fall... I am looking forward to it... I can just see Winston knocking her over while she's trying to learn to walk... so he can sniff her butt. He's done wwell around other small kids... but still.
