I have a choke chain on my dog... only to hang his tags on. When he goes for walks, I use the Gentle Leader collar. With chronic back spams, I was unable to walk him comfortably, because he has a tendancy to pull. I tried a harness on him, and the bugger still pulled and it was painful for me. The Gentle leader sits up at the base of the skull and has a loop around the muzzle that pulls his head down and to the side if he tries to pull. It sits high enough on the neck where it doesn't impede his breathing, eating or swallowing.... and the "pulling" action in on the base of the muzzle, not the neck. I can literally walk him with 2 fingers on the leash.

Hi there! I hope you consider getting a regular buckle collar for your dog for his tags. So many dogs have strangled to death on choke chains.

I confess to making this mistake with Eko in the very early days. If you've surfed through my photostream on flickr, you might have noticed. It wasn't long after that that we started obedience class, and worked our way to the Canine Good Citizen certificate.
When Dottie came along, I tried a gentle leader. Worked wonders. From there she graduated to a regular buckle collar.
Poca was a stone cold puller, so I did the same (harness) with her. She's graduated to a regular collar now too.

That's great to hear, Mike!
It drives me crazy to see people walk int the store with choke chains and prong collars. I always want to say something to them, but we aren't allowed. They don't want us to alienate any customers.

Doesn't help with pulling but the comfort step in harness from Petco is great. It goes around their front legs and shoulders so they don't choke and don't slip out even leaping.

For those of you who have sensation harnesses and bought one while your dog was a pup. how many times did you have to size up to a new one?

Since Pit Bulls vary greatly in size, I think this would vary greatly from dog to dog. Sensation Harnesses are great, though, and I assure you they are worth the price, even if you have to upgrade a size or two as your dog grows.

I love the Sensation Harness. Harley was full grown by the time I started using it but even though her weight has fluxated I have not had to purchase another size.
