Will need advice on our next intro to Moms dog Aura who we believe is a JRT/Cattle dog mix. She has some very annoying habits like jumping and nipping arms for attention. Demanding barking for attention. None of these behaviors have I experienced with Rocky. And I know Rocky does not like when dogs mis behave. BTW my mom listens to nothing I tell her about training. Its not that she does not want to so what I say she just does annoying things too like saying sit a thousand times. It is starting to get to me and as predicted I will be taking over with training. Anyway I have to babysit Aura this week on late Wed afternoon and all day Thursday. I am having her stay home though. But I dont want her crated all day so I thought I would take her for a walk and do an off lead intro in my yard. However I know if she starts jumping nipping and barking Rocky is going to body slam her butt to the ground. He already told me after our 2nd intro walk the other day when she started doing this to my mom. I can tell he wanted to body slam her off of Grandma. Although they did very well on the walk. I also plan to wait until at least my son is here in case I need to separate them. Rocky has put up with my fathers annoying Aussie and generally tries to avoid her. Lots of calming signals. I dont know what exactly I am asking. I have never really been in control of a intro. Last time I did intro with Rocky he was a pup. Should I walk them together neutral first before entering the yard? I was thinking this may be a good idea. Entering the yard together instead of just bringing her in.

good stuff. However the only place safe to allow them to meet off lead is in my yard. I do not have a neutral place to go that is fenced in that I can think of.

she needs a job,. a jrt/cattle dog mix is ALOT of dog.... cattle dogs nip to get the cattle to go the way they want, and jrts are just as nippy.... honestly if your mom doesnt get on the wagon and train that dog she will have alot of issues with her due to her combo of both breeds.....
as far as her and rocky mneeting, i honestly wouldnt let them be off leash together right now.. especially if rocky doesnt like nippy annoying dogs... i would get more training in on your moms dog first, once she is reliably trained then you can do more walks together with rocky, and i would honestly hold off on off leash play for at least a while...
if their personalities clash i wouldnt let them play off leash ..
rufus hates jumpy nippy in your face annoying dogs... can he play with them? yes. can he get annoyed super fast and correct them ? yes.. so i dont let him play with those type of dogs. i know what he likes, and what he doesnt like and i dont mess with it.. he prefers more relaxed dogs that have his personality, he plays better with dogs like that, and i wont set him up to fail by letting him play with an annoying dog as i know he will lace into the other dog if the dog is all high energy annoying in your face nipping..... he met a female boxer the other day that has pretty much the same personality as him, and sunday was the first day they were allowed to play on leash for a few minutes.... he met her a few times on walks, but i had to see how the other dog was to see if i was even going to let him meet her up close... they played fine together the short time we allowed it, and then we both made them relax and he actually laid down on the parking lot and napped with the boxer near him.. both dogs ignored each other for a bit then tried to play again, it was all good as their personalities matched perfectly..
rocky is more laid back, and you should really get your moms dog more under control before you let them play together.. plus its only been a few weeks of your mom having her and maybe a few more weeks to get her under control first might be best..
a jrt/cattle dog mix is going to need ALOT of exercise (like a border collie lol) to bring her energy level down enough so that she doesnt annoy rocky
this is just my opinion

Ok thanks So far they did ok on the walks. except for the jumpy incident. I hope my mom gets on board too because now that 2 weeks have passed the honeymoon is over. Unfortunately then she will have to spend a good amount in the crate. And I will just have to go over there more often. I had no intentions on bringing her in my house acting like that. Rocky would get pissed.

I know but what are the options. My mom works one day a week but this week she has a craft class down by where she works. She still works where she use to live so she is staying down their over night at a friends. I plan to have her out as much as possible. Was trying to get my mom to give her the kitchen or a room during the day and then I will crate her for the night. does that sound good. Rocky was always crated for the night.

any links for curbing this jumping nipping thing or ideas? What has been tried. MOM-saying no off. Do cowers but quickly recovers and does again. Yelping same happens as above. Ignoring-she eventually gives up but will start up again after a while. Now I just have to get my mom to ignore her and have any visitors ignore her (has not been any except me and my son) be ready with treats throw to her when she settles.

Job suggestions? And Rocky too was laying down right next to her while she was sitting calmly while I had control of the two of them and my mom was in the store. I actually got a picture on my cell as best as I could having two leashes. There was even a pit bull tied outside nearby at subway when she barked at them I moved a bit and then Rocky laid down.

of course agree not to let them off leash right away either. Start with just allowing them to see each other while both leashed....don't rush anything.
She is a cutie BTW.

if your mom works one day all day then have her tire the crap out of Aura before she goes to work, then you go there and tire her out again, after she is trustworthy in the house you can gate her in a room, but until you and your mom get rid of all that energy she will need to be exercised/crated first.. as far as a job- teach her service dog things, turn on lights, turn off lights, pick up remote, pick up newspaper, bring clothes in hamper to you, pretty much anything a service dog would do teach aura.. a tired mind = a tired dog as well as physical exercise. take her to agility and enroll her in a class.. that is a great way to burn off energy both physically and mentally... teach her to pull a cart to gather wood, rocks, leaves, etc.... teach her to go up a ladder/down a ladder. teach her everything possible to work her mind, as her combination of jrt/cattle dog she will need a job of some sort to keep her tired. once you start working her mind/body she will relax onthe nipping hopefully .....
teach her to dance, teach her anything that will work her mind and body and use it to your advantage. when she is quiet and good praise the hell out of her... most people forget to do this and only reprimand when a dog is bad. the more you praise for good behavior the more she will understand what is expected of her.

Yeah well I decided not to bring her up here to play. To top it off it is raining and Rocky wont go out in it anyway. So lucky me I get to walk her in the cold rain today because yard is not fenced. We will have to play ball in the dining room. I am thinking of bringing buster cube down for her to play with for a while too. Going to work on her handing the ball. If she drops it I have to use my foot to get it from her because she is too quick to go in and get it. She is very smart and very demanding. I did not mean to get off the pit bull thing and onto her but her behavior will depend on if she and Rocky will be able to interact. I notice now her protective side coming out. Or maybe it is a little fear aggression but if the person turns their back and lets her come to them she recovers and does her licky thing. I believe cattle dogs can be protective of their property. If she is cattle dog. She sure looks it.
