Blahhh it's wet out there...one of those learning experiences today. We were walking down Springfield Ave when Ophie lunges at this parked van. Low and behold it's a Great Dane-she's afraid of a 4 pound cat but challeges a canine pony... So I pulled back at the leash and she falls flat on her back...and her collar slips off. Think the Dane was chuckling at this point. Then Ophie goes for the van again. I hugged her around the shoulders and got the collar back on and hauled her back home...wooof. Proud of myself for staying calm. I was a cat person forever, kitty altercations I'm used to. But the lesson I guess is focusing on your dog. You can't control what the other dog is doing but you can focus on getting your pooch in control and out of the situation. Gotta tighten up that collar too. It's loose since her neck n shoulder are so big but can't have it flying off either. Anybody know the rain date for MapleFest?

Yikes, I bet that was a scary moment! Glad you were able to grab Ophie before anything bad happened. You might consider getting a martingale collar and/or a harness. Definitely gives you more control and there's less risk of slipping off. Collarmania has beautiful martingales... there's a thread in the Shopping Spree section.

Martingale way to go. Rocky likes to put on the brakes when he wants to go where he wants to go. Since his head and neck are same size he would slip right out. I use martingale and or harness.

Well, like you said, learning experience. It happens.
Martingale collars are the way to go.

Pibbles are adorable with their necks as large as their heads! LOL! But that can lead to some oops moments! I also concur that matingales are the way to go!
