So the bf was walking Chubby yesterday when he got home from work (gets home about an hour before me). Chubby has been doing really good on walks (very little pulling, better focus). So Chubs does his little squat-leg-lift he does when he is going to pee so Jason loosened up the leash (Chubby tends to dance a little in this position until he finds the exact spot he wants). Well, Chubby suddenly rushed past Jason and clamped down on a woman's neoprene lunchbag!!!!!!
She was startled and dropped her phone. BF yanks Chubs back and managed to get him to let go of the lunchbag. Bf apologized profusely and the woman says its ok, she's fine and that her friend has a pitbull so she knows they can be overly playful and snatchy sometimes.
If it had been almost anyone else we would have been in HUGE trouble over a "dangerous dog" "attacking" someone. The bf was left almost shaking over the whole situation, as was I when I found out about it later.
Chubby the whole time is displaying happy goofball behavior and body language (he didn't act aggressive at all during the whole thing, the bf said it was more like he just saw a new toy someone was holding). I am still shaking at what could have been. The bf is really really really upset with Chubby over the whole thing, because he knows that if the person hadn't been familiar with (and really liked) pitbulls this whole have ended very badly for all three of us.
What should I do to help prevent this kind of thing from happening? He has been really good on walks since we moved and usually doesn't pay very much mind to people passing by us (unless they have a ball or something, then I put him to one side and hold on to his harness). If people with dogs that don't want to meet us or women with babies/kids pass by all ihave to do it put him in a down-stay until they pass by and he does great. But yesterday...I'm still shaking. :-[
