Tonight I was taking a walk with Rocky and my mom had Aura. We walked passed a house we have gone passed thousands of times. So this little barking dog did not alert us at all when all of a sudden the dam chihuahua was right under Rocky. Apparently they did not have the gate up on the porch. Rocky and I froze he went into his usual stance with a bit of hair up waiting to see if this dog was cool. I was pretty sure he was not because I had seen the way he acted toward us passing when he was on a leash. I was just taking a second too long to see if the owner standing not to far was going to come scoop up her dog. She never moved. in a second the chi went at Rocky and Rocky now lost it barking and pawing trying to get this dog down. Now Aura was barking which just made Rocky make scary barks. So I told my mom to walk other way and I pulled Rocky the other way and the Chi ran home. I yelled 2x is the dog in the house I got a look and no answer so I quickly turned back the way I was going to get home. I could see them coddling their little dog like checking to see if it was ok. This is not good for Rocky. He usually ignores other barking dogs. But incidents like this each time change his reactions. He looses it when on lead if another dog runs at him now. This time he was rather cool until it snarked at him. My mom said she was to see Rocky react like that. BTW this was a big over weight mix chi not a tiny one.

Poor Rocky, I think any dog would react badly if there is a yapping and snapping little monster under them. Shame on that chi owner for not even trying to do anything!

I really wish people would watch their dogs better. This happens in my neighborhood ALL the time. We rarely have a walk where we aren't approached by a dog. Usually the crazy jack russell, min pin, or 2 big curly haired black lab mixes. Bella's hair always stands up on her back when this happens too.

My issue with tiny off-leash dogs (" Oh, but he's so good! He would never run away and always stays by me!" Yeah right) is that Chubby tries to play with them. Chubby has never had a bad reaction to another dog (so far) but he really doesn't understand you can play the pouncing game with tiny dogs like you can with big dogs. And since he is so hefty he could do a lot of damage if he pounced on a small dog (which mind you he thinks is just playing).

Off leash big dogs scare me to pieces when I'm out with Oph, what could they do to her? What might she do to them? Where is their human or somebody...anybody to help...but nasty little dogs-don't get me wrong, we hang in the little pooch side of the dog park for hours on nice days, most are little cats in dog bodies. But nasty ones that go after Ophie. If that had been me I would've kicked the little beast away. If Ophie defended herself the police would still say the 5 pound demon wasn't at fault, no so they could blame me instead.

I bet that owner would of screamed foul if his dog got bit. I just saw a show where a pit was on his porch and tied to a leash with owner beside him and a loose dog ran into the yard and before the pit owner could remove his dog they got into a fight. The owner of the pit had to pay medical bills. The judges crazy "reasoning" was you know a pit and know it will attack so you should of known better even though the other unleashed dog came on your property.
