so sadie gets a ton of exercise, which in turn makes her MORE hyper.... less exercise and she bounces for around 20 minutes and is fine... more exercise = hyper bouncing off the walls ALL NIGHT..
any ideas why?
she gets mind/physical exercises...

Bella's the same way exactly. Don't know why, but would love to know. ???

Yep, Barley is the same way too, especially with the bouncing. Literal bouncing. We call him the Jolly Jumping Jackass. He's a GSD mix... I don't know much about the breed, but is that common with them?

Perhaps it's genetically related to zoomies? I find a long off leash run in the tennis court and at least an hour walking daily knocks Ophie out by 11pm

well maybe it is like when humans work out....after a nice workout people have more energy...endorphins kicking in etc.

well maybe it is like when humans work out....after a nice workout people have more energy...endorphins kicking in etc. That's actually my suspicion about Barley. He's just so damn happy when he's running around and bouncing like an idiot that he doesn't want to stop.

i am also wondering if the 32% protein in the BG is contributing to her, as she was on pedigree kibble before.....hmmmmm

pedigree protein 21% before grain by merrick protein 34%
i am thinking the higher protein is just toooo much for her.. she wasnt this bouncy when she was on the pedigree..

They say that unless a dog is a full time working canine- ie search and rescue, sled dog-that way high protein formulas aren't a good idea despite what the marketers claim

yeah, i know. she isnt a working dog so i am going to go with a lower protein and see what happens, or its her true personality showing now as she has been here a month already and the honeymoon period is over lol

After an extremely long walk even if exhausted from heat, first thing Rocky does when we get back home is the craziest zooming circles through the yard. Then he drops down on the damp cool area of the lawn. I always figured it was like when I took a work out class I would be wired when I got home. However things that I have to use my mind like riding a motorcycle and especially shooting that makes me exhausted. So maybe mind games will tire her out.

she gets mind games as well as physical exercise, so its either her true personality or the protein is too high. once i go to a lower protein i will see if its the protein or her true self showing..

My guess is the food change is contributing. Plus runners high ;D

update: sadie has been on merrick wilderness since sunday 24% protein .. she has calmed down ALOT in that short time.. i am giving it a full 3 weeks to see a change if any, since she was on the BG 34% protein for 3 weeks as well. so far her energy has dropped enough to notice, she still gets her exercise and play with rufus, but i definitely noticed a nice change in 4 days..

update: the new lower protein is working wonders!!! she is not bouncing off the walls anymore, and is actually more behaved on the lower protein... she isnt annoying rufus like she was , and is doing much better in general...whew.... i was hoping i wouldnt have to wait until she hit 9 to calm down lol... she is still a dork, but a not so hyper dork lol
