hi i dont know how to put my intro in the forum policy.
my name is chute boxe the username i use on other forums and would like to say thanks for adding me in this site!!
to me a real bulldog is the pedigree gamebred APBT with full generation proven pitbulls backing its purity. without a ped i believe you dont know what is really in your dog.
with a pedigree you can trace its full origin to the fondation dogs of the old. with that you get the great temperment towards people.
you say it should be around 50lbs would have to disagree through histoy majority of APBTS were smaller than that. even some that were 14lb's in the 1800's.
50lb+ APBT were matched catchweight similar to boxing, UFC etc heavyweightweight division. (im not for illegal activities, but firm beleiver in studying the formation of this breed to fully understand the APBT whether i enjoy it or not)
i believe AVERAGE size of a PURE APBT is in the 30s-40s lb. the dogs that were breed for gameness (extreme courage and willingness to never cowar)
bulldogs were created for the bloodsport of "bullbaiting" which dogs were set upon a bull. as this became a trend alot of the bigger dogs were getting killed very quickly so they breed the smaller terrier dogs who were just as full of gameness as the bulldogs. to creat a smaller target and fast and agile to monuever around the bull and take his her hold.
history tells us the EBD (english bulldog) is the original bulldog i luagh at that. they say the EBD jaw is the way it is to better breathe when on a bull. yet the EBD struggles to breathe laying in its bed! when you see APBT hanging on springpole he can breathe just fine.
if you look for old carvings and paintings of "bulldogs" they vary in sizes but look identical to the modern GAMEBRED APBTs of today which to me i believe the dog has not changed in appearance for multiple centuries. mainly because it is breed for performance NOT for pretty looks to suite the different trends of the show ring. which having a full pedigree pit bulldog is an honour in its self.
i could go on all day if you want to find more info out on the APBT there is so much info on net of the history of this great breed.
