I'll never forget a guy with an idiot off lead Lab who came charging at Pablo when I was walking him to the Delaware who yelled out; "It's okay! He's friendly!" Yeah, it's just freakin' perfect ...

Oh that was wonderful!!! I especially liked this part:
"Any anthropologist (or kindergartner) can read the clear body language in play..."

My dog is friendly...but I am still careful with everyone he meets and always ask first (only if BOTH the owner and the dog have body language that says "hello"). I just hate that when these meetings go well at first and then after a while I see Chubby is getting annoyed or wants to walk away that the other dog owner keeps loosening up their leash.
Emily: "He's got highly contagious flying-monkey-ebola-pox...but super friendly too!"

Great blog!
My most annoying MDIF moment was when a big black German Shepherd came running at Saxon and I a couple of months ago. I jumped between him and Saxon and yelled "STAY!" His owner burst out of a store and yelled, "He's friendly!" in an angry tone and grabbed the dog by the color. Ok, how am I supposed to know that a big unaccompanied dog running at me is friendly!? I just gave the guy a look and walked on.

Awesome, Emily! My dogs are DINOS, and I'm proud of it!
I walked with Rocky last weekend, with a friend of mine who also has a DINOS, and on the trail we encountered a fella with a Samoyed off-leash. He insisted that it's okay if his dog meets ours; I emphatically stated that there's a leash-law in effect, and that my dog is not dog-friendly. I was treated like a leper... why do I have to be accosted by dog owners that have no respect for others?

I loved this article.
People always give me the evil eye when I head into the street or across the sidewalk with Maxine. I generally call out to them. "She's still in training!" and that gets the point across.
For the few times when people have insisted on a meeting, (We ran into this one woman with a Bull Mastiff puppy who was trying to socialize her own dog.) I tell them sure they can meet...But keep your dog about 10 ft away to start and we'll go from there.

The head moron in my neighborhood used a different phrase - "But he's a nice dog". In just over 2 years the 'nice' dog sent one neighbor to the hospital, bit other people 4 times, 5 citations for running loose, and no dog license. Finally our contract animal control got involved and sent the dog to live in a different nearby town to live with a relative. Two of the three people in the household were not physically able to restrain their 100 lb Husky mix (Wolfdog) so even if they wanted to stop him from doing something bad they couldn't. The owner didn't think he was doing anything wrong so I had to take him to court to get him to pay our vet bills.

Well, your neighborhood's head moron is taking this to a whole 'nother level of stupidity. Dang.

Just a brief "Well she gets "funny" sometimes usually backs people off, or gently explaining that if their pooch tries to hump her she'll hand him his head...always polite about it though...
